See attached for additional information. o The Griffin Hospital Occupational Medicine Center, OSHA Alliance, and Serra & DelVecchio Insurance are presenting an OSHA Seminar on “Training for Temp Agencies & Employers Hiring Temp Employees” Tuesday, March 18 th from 9 am to 12 noon in Shelton, CT. Leona May, Compliance Assistance Specialist, U.S. Dept. of Labor – OSHA, Bridgeport Area Office, will review OSHA’s safety regulations, including the General Duty Clause which requires employers to provide a safe work environment for all workers, regardless of their classification or status. See attached information. o The Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Central CT (HBRA) is offering the OSHA 10-Hour Construction class in Rocky Hill on Thursday and Friday, March 20 and 21, 2014 for both HBRA members and non-members. See attached information. o American Ladders & Scaffolds, Inc. in Glastonbury is offering a 3-hour “Ladder, Scaffold & Fall Protection Awareness” Safety Class on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 8 am – 11 am. Ongoing Educational Opportunities o The subject of the March 18, 2014 Breakfast Roundtable Discussion Group Meeting will be “Operation Lifesaver.” Operation Lifesaver is a national program dedicated to reducing the number of injuries and deaths that occur at highway/railroad grade crossings or as a result of trespass on railroad rights of way. o The subject of the April 17, 2014 Breakfast Roundtable Discussion Group Meeting will be “Respirators.” Leona May, Compliance Assistance Specialist, U.S. Dept. of Labor – OSHA, Bridgeport Area Office, and Sue Roy, Safeware, Inc. will be the presenters. Respiratory protection must be worn whenever you are working in a hazardous atmosphere. The appropriate respirator will depend on the contaminant(s) to which you are exposed and the protection factor (PF) required. Required respirators must be NIOSH-approved and medical evaluation and training must be provided before use. o The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Keene State College has a number of 10- and 30- Hour Authorized Outreach Train-the-Trainer courses scheduled in New England through June 2014. See attached for more information. o The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Keene State College now has classes in Hamden CT! See attached for more information on the August 12-14, 2014 #3095 Electrical Standards Class and the May 2014 #502 Update for Construction Trainers, and #503 Update Class for General Industry Trainers classes. o The University of Connecticut (UCONN) offers a bachelor’s degree program with a concentration in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS), and it also offers a 5 course (15 credits) Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) postbaccalaureate certificate program. The OSHA National Office, including the Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, many Directorates, the OSHA Training Institute (OTI), the Salt Lake Technical Center, all ten OSHA Regional Offices and their Area Offices, OSHA State Plan states, OSHA State Consultation Offices, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) participants, labor organizations, Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) facilities, Alliance partners, and local Building Inspectors will be working with as many stakeholders as possible on a nationwide scale to promote the National Preventing Falls in Construction Stand Down the week of June 2 – 6, 2014, part of the continuing Falls Campaign. Employers and stakeholders will download materials including PowerPoint presentations from OSHA’s website using a dedicated webpage. Employers will schedule a convenient time for their safety officer/instructor to conduct the training at their worksites (remembering all shifts). Specifically: The report contains CDC guidance that augments the 2011 recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for evaluating hepatitis B protection among health-care personnel (HCP) and administering post-exposure prophylaxis. Explicit guidance is provided for persons working, training, or volunteering in health-care settings who have documented hepatitis B (HepB) vaccination years before hire or matriculation (e.g., when HepB vaccination was received as part of routine infant [recommended since 1991] or catch-up adolescent [recommended since 1995] vaccination).
