Theme : My Fav. Place in MMU

Based on our chosen theme, I have no doubt that my favorite place in MMU is my very
own hostel room.
IDEAS
Since the room is a limited place to do a lot of things, I decided to explain why I really
think that it is the best place in MMU.
I included few reasons of it and explain it one by one via scenes of the video. Meaning,
there is a divider for each scene and from each divider, I include the reason and it is then
followed by a video showing or explaining the reason.
I started out the video with me come into my room with happy face and appreciative
body language. The video is then followed by these scenes:
Scene 1: The scene where I check the computer and stayed in front of it till late of the
night. In other words, I just love to go online and will stop when I wanted to.
Idea: In order to give viewers a clearer message that I go online till late night, I simply
divide the scene with two parts. The upper part shows a table clock that runs from
evening till 12am and the lower part of the scene is my actions throughout the online
time. I made it in fast motion just to balance with the clock that is also in fast speed.
Scene 2: The reason is “I can have my own silly times” means that I can do whatever I
like especially if it’s embarrassing. Since I’m not daring enough to put a scene where I
pick on my nose, I chose to do the I-have-the-best-closet-in-mmu scene. Which of course
is not true.
Idea: Since we were only given few minutes for the whole video, and my part only
consists of 1 minutes and 10seconds, again, I decided to separate the frame with two
videos. I also think that it is the best way to show that I do this part most of the time.
The song for this scene is He’s a Mod by Nita. I chose this song because this song is hype
and fast, just like the scene.
Scene 3: The third scene is to show that I can have the time to my own. This is where I
do my own stuff like talking to the phone privately or read magazine in spare time.
Idea: Yes, split screen is used again to show these two activities and to shorten the time
length.
The song used is Siti by Force Vomit. No particular reason. I just love the starting part of
this song.
Scene 4: This is the short part of showing the importance of yahoo! Messenger. I put it
short because I don’t want another computer scene. However, the scene is here to show
that it is not necessity for me to go out often to meet my friends. I can just buzz them via
y!m whenever I need to contact them.
Idea: To make it real, I put the doorbell sound when someone buzz me.
Scene 5: The scene to show that my room is food-available and I won’t go starve in here.
Idea: Make myself walk to the food cupboard. I used the camera to be as my own eyes.
The song used is We Are The Youth by ACAB. I like the suspense intro.
Scene 5: The last scene is like the conclusion of the video. With the phrase “There is No
Place Like My Room” and followed by me sleeping for the night end it all.
The background music is Great Scott by APRIL, a great band produced in MMU itself.
TOOLS USED
Tools used are mostly the basic tools such as razor that cuts the videos and audios. I have
also used effects on each video and audio. Video effects such as Ripple, Lens Distortion,
Page Curl, Lens Flare, Twirl, Transform, Color Emboss, Brightness & Contrast, Roll and
Wave Warp are widely used in my video. Also, I added Paint Splatter, Band Slide as for
the video transitions. Audio transitions that are used in my video are both Constant Gain
and Constant Power.
REPORT
Few days before this video assignment submission, I can see that the students, fcmers
especially, are in chaos due to the lack of ideas, hard to get members in group together,
too many of chosen themes and also hard on finding one simple theme. I dare to say that
most of us can work better with the due date is just around the corner because we are
capable of working in high pressure. Therefore, our first meeting was only last week and
at that time we chose our chosen theme which is ‘My favorite place in MMU’. We
brainstormed for a couple of minutes on how the video should be and decided that each
of us has to do our own video, which of course is a must for all of us. The spirit of
making was dull at first. However, it became interesting when the first minute I started
the shooting. By the way, I shoot most of the video by myself using only webcam
because it is easier as we can see how the video would look like in the monitor.
Of course, There are few problems that I faced during the shooting. Those problems are:
1. Not having the right lighting – Solutions: I make sure the curtains were all open
and the lights are on.
2. Using webcam is hard when it needs to be still and must be placed at a certain
thing to get the right angle – Solutions: I used whatever that can make it still like
put it on the chair, pencil case, even pillow, table with blankets on it, anything at
all.
My group members are all being supportive and we did what we’re given to do. They
helped me with Adobe Premier when I had problems with certain things.
