Winter Retreat Feb. 21-23, 2014
Dear Friends!
Camp Connection's annual winter retreat is coming up fast and
we'd like to encourage you to apply as soon as possible. We have
a limited number of spaces available so fill out the reverse side of
this form and send it in to the address listed with your deposit
right away!
The theme this year will be Experiencing the Trinity and will look
at how this often confusing and misunderstood core Christian
doctrine can have a real impact in our relationship with God and
His fellow children. We'll be gathering together in this wonderful
new location to pray, play, learn, encourage and exhort oneanother through a variety of activities.
That's it in a nutshell, but what about in a larger size shell I hear you ask, say turtle sized for example? To
answer that I would encourage you to indulge me in some nostalgic preamble to set the scene. Twenty years
ago the closest thing I got to experiencing winter was the forbidding snowy static of a TV on the blink while
trying to calibrate my Super Nintendo to play black and white Mario Kart. Sometimes as I stared into that
vacant velutinous abyss I caught a glimpse of my future... one where in the wild winds of the North, in the
imposing vastness of the hinterlands, bearded lumberjacks roamed trading timber with their husky powered
caravans.
As you can imagine, my introduction to Canadian winters have left much to be desired. I vowed that one day
I would experience a winter so exceptional as to pay homage to that first impression of Canada I had acquired
from the Lumberjack Song and Due South. That winter... has come (or is about to, but that has less literary
impact.) Will there be psychotic barbers singing about being lumberjacks you ask? Will there be a Mountie
accompanied by a deaf wolf and a gratingly generic American detective? Well... no. But here I will list what
there will be:

Four sessions in which we'll learn about God in His Triune nature and ask: how does knowing Him as
Father, Son and Holy Spirit really impact my relationship with Him?

Fellowship - time will definitely be given for people to indulge their social itches so you can banter,
disciple and condescend to your heart's content.

Skating! The location is set on a lake that they will clear for us to, ice permitting, play any variety of
"on ice" games we can with minimal bloodshed and crying.

Dog sledding with a genuine bearded dude (lumberjack license to be confirmed.)

Extreme snowball fights (paintball masks, snowball auto-loaders and Snow-Mo-Matic 3000TM not
provided.)

Board games and cards, a large variety of games will be available to be enjoyed with hot chocolate as
we warm up after some of the outdoor shenanigans.
For a final push I would ask you to consider the photo above which shows what happened to one of the
people who failed to take retreating from winter seriously in years gone by.
