Explore Students listen to Lola and Arturo as Lola tells Arturo about her school. This is taken from the larger resource ¡Vamos a hablar! (Los estudios –Education and work, Activity 2). Your tasks Create your school timetable in Spanish Students use Microsoft Word to re-create their school timetable in Spanish. 1 © NSW DET 2009 Search the internet Students search the internet to find information about schools in one or more Spanishspeaking countries and reflect on the similarities and differences between those schools and their own school. They could share their findings with classmates via a class blog. Edublogs is a good place to start for setting up a class blog. Once you create a new Edublogs blog page you will need to request that the page is unblocked. Start the class blog off with a question such as: What are the similarities and differences between schools in Spanish-speaking countries and your school? This gives students a blog posting they can reply to. Interview a friend in Spanish This is a pair activity. Students record a video interview with a friend about school. Students should plan their interview and prepare the questions and answers. The length of the interview could be approximately 2-3 minutes. Possible questions could include: ¿Es grande tu escuela? ¿Como son los profesores? ¿Como son las aulas? ¿Qué haces durante el recreo y la hora de comida? Students are advised to rehearse the interview several times, before filming with the laptop webcam and Adobe Premiere Elements. They can edit the video using Adobe Premiere Elements. Alternatively, if they prepare only the questions, a non-rehearsed and spontaneous interview can be videoed. Teachers can decide which method will be more appropriate for their students. Students can share their interview with the class by attaching their laptop to a data projector and external speakers. Alternatively, they can share their interview with the class by email or USB drive. Create a multimedia presentation in Spanish This could be an individual, pair or small group activity. Students create a multimedia presentation in Spanish about their school using Adobe Presenter. 2 © NSW DET 2009 Students can take the photos with the laptop webcam and Lenovo EasyCapture. The photos can then be edited using Adobe Photoshop Elements. They could include maps or images of their school accessed from Google maps. Remind students that they should not photograph anyone without their permission. They should also acknowledge the source of each image. Students could also record video on their laptop webcam using Adobe Presenters video features. Within PowerPoint go to the Adobe Presenter tab > Video group > Capture. It is recommended that students write a draft of their script and check that the language is accurate and the information is sequenced logically. They could also discuss it with their teacher. They can then make any changes and rehearse the edited version before recording the audio in Presenter. Students can share their presentation with the class by attaching their laptop to a data projector and external speakers. Alternatively, they can share their interview with the class by email or USB drive.
