True Greatness Points Away from Itself to the Great One
1. The Problem of Doubt (vs 2-6)
Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that
does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matt 3:10
Faith (the antidote to doubt) comes from hearing, and hearing through
the word of Christ. Rom 10:17
2. The Problem of Unbelief (vs 16-20)
Evil people are trapped by sin, but the righteous escape, shouting for joy.
Proverbs 29:6
3. The Solution - Knowing What Really Matters (vs 7-15)
"Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.
And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple… Mal 3:1
Our significance in this world is not achieved by pointing others
to ourselves---but in pointing others to Christ!
For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your
