A&W restaurant opened for business a while ago. It started with just selling root beer in 1919 in
Lodi, California by a man named Roy Allen.
Roy invented the A&W root beer and started to sell his root beer and opened a business. He sold the root beer for a couple of years starting in 1920.
The restaurant went nation-wide in 1922 spreading east from California. The restaurant opened more outlets in Houston, Texas.
After success in selling his beverage from a root beer stand in Lodi and Sacramento, he teamed up with one of his original employees, Frank Wright, to officially market their A&W Root Beer in
1924
A&W then started selling hamburgers and hotdogs along with their famous root beer in a couple of years.
In the years of 1925-1926, Allen moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and restarted his business. By selling A&W franchises throughout the United States, Allen created the very first restaurant chain in America.

By 1970 there were over 2,000 A&W drive-thru restaurants spread across the nation.
