Presidents Corner:

There is not much to report from the San Diego Council of Bass Clubs. The Kiosk we keep talking about has run into a bit of a speed bump. The City has required a change in the display that would compromise the purpose of the display. SDCBC

President, Jim Putney, is working hard to find a solution.

Treasurer Gary Bass reported a bank balance of $11,304.26, savings account

$5,053.61.

It was reported that Joe Weber has said, if the water at El Cap continues to fall he will impose a 50 “pleasure boat” limit on the lake for safety concerns.

It was requested that the clubs begin gathering BIO information from our top six competitors as well as photo’s for this year’s Top Six event.

OLD GUY’S RULE, at least our “Old Guy” representative is making some noise. We all know Jim Putney was the guy at

Otay with an 11+ in the bag, a week later he found a 10+ at Murray. They say once you get the first one out of the way the rest are easy. Go Jim.

Vice President Greg Gardner will tell us about the program he has arranged for our general meeting. Looking forward to a full house, this information will benefit us all.

Greg will also tell us about the family tournament but I wanted to seek in with a Thanks to Greg and BBQ master Ed Marr for a great event. I thought the Tri-Tip was incredible, and then I had the Chicken, “it was impossible good”. I went right home and buried my BBQ. We were at the picnic area when the show began; the Seaberg’s were right in front of us when they began to rope-um as we cheered them on.

We saw a lot of Bassmasters at the first El Cajon Ford night tournament. Those tournaments are a hoot. There were 72 boats; it took better than 21 pounds to win over $4700.00.

See ya at the meeting

Hello, Bassmasters! Big news… We will have a guest speaker at our club meeting on May 6 th . Going into summer Ron

Overman asked me to get a guest speaker who could tell us the latest improvements on C.P.R. and how to take better care of yourself in the hot months. I gave this assignment to Zoe’ and she has arranged for a good friend of hers to talk to us. Her name is Judy Lohman and she is the Nurse Manager in the Intensive Care Unit at Sharp Chula Vista Medical

Center where Zoe’ works. Judy should give us a lot of good information. Thank you, Zoe’!

If you were not at our Family Tournament on April 19 th at Lake Murray, you missed a good one! Two very high points of the day – Gina and Dave Seaberg won! And Ed Marr stole the show with his outstanding BBQ. The fishing was good for lots of people. Gina had the big fish that weighed 4.77 lbs. The team of Terry Chenowth, Vicki Becker and young Braden had 5 fish for second place. Zoe’ and Colton Hallauer took third with 5 fish. That team has been fishing for the last 3 years, and they are always a threat.

When I say Ed Marr stole the show that was no exaggeration. He organized the day, bought the food, and did an outstanding job cooking. He served trip-tip bar-b-qued on the spot, and chicken that he cooked the night before and heated up on the second bbq. He looked like a one-man band performing in a concert. Great job, Ed. Thank you!

Next up will be our picnic on June 15 th , “Father’s Day” at Santee Lakes. We will have a special “father’s only” drawing, games for the ladies, games for the kids, washer toss, casting contest, and Ed Marr has agreed to head up the cooking for

lunch. And don’t forget the exciting raffle! You know it will be good. We will have more info and start a sign-up sheet at the May meeting.

See you at the meeting!

Hello Bassmasters,

Our Otay tournament was interesting to say the least. It took me about an hour to get my limit. Now even though it was a small limit I thought I would cull up and have a shot. We little did I know that less than half an hour after the start of the tournament thirty six of us were eliminated with Jim Putney’s first cast of the morning. Jim was fishing alone and on his first cast of the day he stuck a beautiful 11.31 pound bass. That’s how you start a tournament. Jim finished the day with an 18.68 pound limit. Jim kept on a roll by catching a 10 plus pounder at Murray fishing with Greg Gardner. What a fantastic week. Okay back to Otay. Josh Buller weighed in a limit that went 13.87 pounds good for second place. One of our Otay “locals” Joe DeSalvo put together a strong limit at 12.26 pound to claim the third place plaque.

I would like to thank a few Bassmaster who really helped out at Otay. When I came in at the end of the tournament I found I had a flat left rear tire. Since I had to do the weigh-in I just got the scales out of the truck and planned on taking care of it after my work was done. Well a few of our Bassmasters stepped up and helped out. Bud Brant, Frank

Neugebauer and Keith Cloward all offered use of floor jack as soon as they heard about the tire. Well Keith as soon as soon he weighed his fish got out his tools and started changing the tire. Frank Neugebauer was right behind Keith and by the time I finished the results and got to my truck the job was well over half way done. I heard it took them and Vicki longer to find the kit and getting the spare down then to do the work. So Keith, Frank and Bud I want to thank the three of you for helping me out.

At our May meeting we will be going over the Diamond Valley rules to get ready for our June tournament. There is a

Wounded Warrior Tournament May 17 th put on by National Bass West. There is no cost to the boaters that want to get involved and take a U.S. Veteran fishing. I hope you can get involved.

No Problem, I’m on Fish…

From the Treasurer’s Desk:

Well we survived another river tournament. It was another survival contest with winds higher than I have ever experienced out there in all the years I have been fishing out there. The good news is the winds dropped off for the two tournament days. The bad news was when the winds drop off the heat kicks up pretty good. It certainly did on Saturday. While the fishing was not as good as it could be, it was not that bad. It was actually quite good for some people.

Congratulations to those that did well. Inder continues to do well and continues to find big fish. Congratulations to Inder on the win. The 8.22 lb. fish certainly went a long way to sealing the victory. Kudos also go out to Rockin Ronnie

Overman on his second place finish and to Nick Meyer for third. It did not take Nick very long to get some wall candy in this club. Great job to all three.

Here are the numbers for the treasury. We have $5,865.32 in the kitty. This is after the expenses for the family tournament but before we write the check to Mr. Jim for his monster bass caught at the Otay tournament.

Congratulations Jim. I appreciate everyone keeping up on their dues. It always makes this job easier. Thanks again.

See you on the water,

Frank

Prospective member James Bogin has been pre-fished and pre-tournament fished. At our next club meeting we will have James tell us a little bit about himself and why he would like to join the San Diego Bassmasters. This will give our members the chance to ask

James questions. Next we will ask James to step outside for a few minutes so that Greg Gardner and Bud Brant can talk about their time spent fishing with James. A vote on the prospective member will be taken, using the white & black marbles. If all club members vote using white marbles the prospective member has been accepted into the club, if there is one back marble the prospective member is still accepted, if there are two black marbles the general membership will disapprove the application. Upon approval by the general membership, full membership status and membership credentials shall be presented. (Cap hat, copy of the

San Diego Bassmasters General Meeting

April 1, 2014

President Ron Overman – Meeting called to order at 7pm. Minutes were approved by Ryan and Greg.

Ron and the club congratulated Inder Lopez for 5 th place at TOC. Inder did a great job and beat 11 other club champions.

Inder told us about the experience. He threw swim baits but didn’t get a big bite. There were only 2 big fish caught in the entire tournament. Fish were in full spawn mode so fishing was challenging. Ron thanked Terry Chenowth for being the

Tournament Director and Joe, Frank, and Vicki for helping with the weigh in. It was nice to see so many club members turn out for the event. Ramona Bass Masters handled the BBQ this year. This year turned out to be the best year yet for raising funds for the crisis house at the TOC.

The SDBM board asked the Bass Council to address the go fast boats at el cap as a possible hazard. A suggestion was to limit the ski area up to Conejos and no farther. Ronnie will address this to the council on the club ’s behalf.

Thanks to Scott Garber for drinks and Ed Marr for snacks.

Ryan and Josh to bring snacks at the May meeting.

Membership-Regina Seaberg Guests at the Meeting included Laura Zeaman and James Bogan

Laura is interested in becoming a member of the Bass masters and attended her 1 st meeting

Vice President- Greg Gardener Asked Ed Marr to talk about the family tourney and bbq coming up on the 19 th . It is open to friends and family and neighbors etc. 12:00pm weigh in and bbq right after. You can use live bait if you want.

There will be a trophy. Bring a fun gift for the kids as a raffle prize, doesn’t have to be fishing related. A signup sheet was circulated.

Treasurer-Frank Neugebauer -

$300 is for some Bass master clothes orders

Anyone delinquent with dues has taken care of things with Frank so everyone is up to date. Frank thanked everyone for keeping dues up to date.

Tournament Director-Terry Chenowth Havasu was fun but lots of mechanical issues…

Big fish day 1 was Josh and Big Fish Day 2 and for tournament was Inder 6.4lb caught on brush hog

Fishing was good. 3 rd place was Jason Wilson had a boat problem but got help from Terry. Motor is currently being fixed up. Managed to catch over 30 lbs in spite of all the challenges.

2 nd place Bud Brant 31lbs. Bud’s dog had eye infection issues, his wife had to go to the doctor, and house guest Buck was sick. But is spite of these circumstances Bud found the mother lode in the river and caught them with chatter and crank baits. He caught 18 fish in 3 hours. He had 31lbs.

1 st place was Ed Byrd. 31.99lbs. He was sick while fishing and he would nod off time to time and then get bit. He caught Drop shot largemouth deep and smallmouth shallow.

Terry asked members to have weigh slip ready, hold bag open for Joe, and have big fish marked when they come to the weigh in.

Members signed up for the River and for Otay at this meeting. Members can still sign up for River to get points, but please do it ASAP.

Otay may be closed on the 5 th or the 12 th . But for now the tourney is still on as scheduled for the 12 th .

Terry will check and let us all know the correct date by mass email once it is determined when the lake will be open to the public and not closed for a rowing event.

Otay 13 inch launch and go, be courteous at Olympic dock, off limits is other side of buoy line. And 100 feet of the boat launch doc. You can fish the courtesy dock since it is 100 feet from the boat launch dock. If Lake Staff says you are too close then back off. 3pm weigh in

FISH TALES -

By: Doris Cook

THE REST OF THE STORY!

Jim Putney made his first cast of the day while fishing in the Otay tournament and caught an 11.31 pound bass. He managed to land four more before weigh-in to take first place, big fish and big fish in tournament for the year. He said that fish was so long it had no room to move in the live well and had to face the same direction throughout the tournament day, but was still very full of life when being weighed in. Not to be content with that exciting catch, he and Greg Gardner went to Lake Murray the following

Wednesday. Greg caught a fish on a bed and had Jim beat, until just before getting off the water, Greg suggested they go back to Padre Bay and have Jim show him how he would fish the point. Jim made a cast and came back with a 10.4 pound bass to make the day complete. I told

Jim he should have saved that one for our Family Tournament the following Saturday.

BRE GETS HER WINGS!

It was a pleasant surprise to see Jennifer Louis and her daughter, Bre Meleen when they stopped by our family tournament at Lake Murray on Saturday, April 19 th . Bre recently completed “jump” school and earned her airborne wings. She was home on leave prior to leaving last Saturday to join the 173 rd

Airborne Brigade of Sky

Soldiers in Vicenza, Italy, where she will be stationed for two years. An interesting note! The judge Jennifer works for in the El Cajon Court, a retired U.S. Army Colonel passed along to Bre, his Airborne Wings that have traveled all over the world keeping him safe on many, many jump missions. Hopefully these “well worn” wings will keep Bre safe during her service. Congratulations and good luck Bre!

A NEW BEGINNING!

Ron Overman is in the process of collecting 200 new pairs of white men’s socks for Crisis House. He currently has 150 pairs on hand. May 7 th

is the date when the homeless people will participate in a ceremony at the Crisis

House, where they wash their feet and put on new socks to signify a new beginning. Should you have socks to donate, please contact Ron Overman at (619) 823-7222.

IT’S A NEW F O R D!

Greg & Zoé Gardner are breaking in their new 2014 F-250 Ford truck which was supposed to be waiting for them when they returned from Lake Havasu. They went to pick it up and were very excited and pleased with the appearance until Zoé noticed a different emblem on the truck. It turned out to be a diesel instead of gas, so they had to wait until the correct model was delivered.

It is beautiful and has all the bells and whistles, and a few they had added. They sold the 2003 last week to a guy who lives in their neighborhood. Good luck and many happy miles in the new ride!

GOODBYE, JOSH & JENNIFER!

Josh Rhodes and Jennifer Brown are in the process of moving to their newly leased house in Lake Havasu City,

AZ. He was able to get Direct TV to transfer his job there. Josh stated “they were moving in true Lakeside style by using his Mom’s pony trailer to haul their belongings.”

We hate to see you two go, but hope all goes well and you enjoy your new home and adventure. Don’t forget to come back to visit!
