Check List of Plants in Bloom or Fruit on September 9, 2007 at Ferndale
Park in Matoaca, Virginia along the River Trail upstream from parking area
and on the towpath in the vicinity of the bridge over the canal.
Each entry consist of a common name as given in Newcomb’s Wildflower
Guide, a scientific name as given in Manual of Vascular Plants of
Northeastern United States and Adjacent Canada by H. A. Gleason and A.
Cronquist, the page number in Newcomb’s, and the name of the plant family.
Scientific names are in italics. Scientific names in Newcomb are not
recognized by Gleason and Cronquist are in parenthesis. Gleason and
Conquist is a more up to date source for scientific names than Newcomb’s.
Scientific names are in italics. If the scientific name in Gleason and Conquist
is different from the ones in Newcomb’s the Scientific name in Newcomb’s
is given in parenthesis. Page numbers refer to Newcomb’s. The Botanical
