TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH, 2010 - TERM 4, WEEK 6 Central Tilba Public School 89 Corkhill Drive Central Tilba NSW 2546 phone 02 4473 7210 fax 02 4473 7469 e-mail centrtilba-p.admin@det.nsw.edu.au website www.centrtilba-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Dear parents and students, My apologies that there was no newsletter last week as Linda was away. It has certainly been a successful time for Central Tilba Public School. First, our dynamic chess team of Mackenzie O’Neill, Max Christmass, Cree Marjanen-Jones and Jai Reed represented Central Tilba Public School at the Eurobodalla Braidwood Learning Community’s Chess Day at Batemans Bay Public School. The boys played some great chess during the day and finished in the top half of the results against some very skilful opponents. They are to be congratulated on their efforts, attitude and behaviour on the day. Then, last Thursday the Primary Class attended the Awards Ceremony for the Picasso Cow Project in Moruya and came home as Grand Champions! The cows on display from other schools were magnificent, but our Tilba cow proved to be the best. All the children need to be congratulated ~ it was not just the painting of the cow that was judged but all the many other things we did at school that secured us first prize. Thank you to Mr Markham for all the work that he did on the project. Last Friday, our school held a Public Speaking competition for the local high school feeder schools and we were successful in retaining the Gulaga Learning Community Public Speaking Shield with an overall top score. Our team of Johanna Kamer, Eric Hills, Luka Potts-Haack, Nicholas Carter, Leiana Massie and Cree Marjanen-Jones all spoke extremely well on their prepared topics of ‘Travel’, followed by an impromptu speech. Johanna came third in the Years 3 and 4 section, while Nicholas was runner up in the Years 5 and 6 section. Tomorrow our Primary Class travel to Bournda for a three day camping trip. Thank you to Fran Ballard, Denise Williams and Gail England who have volunteered to assist. Have a great week! John Carter, Principal PRIMARY CLASS BOURNDA EXCURSION – TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH – Please make sure you are at school early, the bus will leave at 9.30am, BUT the trailer needs to be packed with all gear prior to that, so make sure you’re here in good time. Other points to remember: Please read your ‘What To Bring List’ carefully (another copy on back of newsletter) All students need their own sleeping bag and sleeping mat. Students should all bring a torch as there is only one solar light in the camp ground kitchen. Students need their fruit break, lunch for the first day and should make sure they bring a water bottle. Insect repellent – could be lots of mozzies at Bournda. KINDERGARTEN CLASS 2011 ORIENTATION DAYS The Orientation Days set down for our Kindergarten Class of 2011 are FRIDAYS, DECEMBER 3RD AND 10TH, 9AM-1PM. If you have any questions or queries whatsoever, please do not hesitate to ask any of our friendly and helpful staff. If you know of anyone who may be considering sending their child to Central Tilba Public School Kindergarten class (or any other class) next year, please let them know about our Orientation Days and ask them to contact the school for more information about our orientation days and enrolment. Alternatively, please let Linda know and she will contact them. Thank you. “THE REJECTABLES” - Our focus over the remainder of the term will be with our school performance, “The Rejectables”, which will culminate in two performances in the second last week of term ~ a matinee performance at noon on Tuesday, December 7th, and an evening performance on Thursday, December 9th, at 7.00pm. Every child is involved in both performances. My thanks to local community member, Bev Long, who began dancing tuition with the children last week. As we approach the performances, we will need to rehearse in the little hall in Central Tilba. In this newsletter is a general permission note for all children to leave the school grounds under supervision to walk to and from the hall to rehearse and perform. Please return it this week to enable us to begin rehearsing on a regular basis in the hall. Once again, any parents who can assist with the making of costumes or props are asked to get in touch with Linda, Fran or Christina to organise suitable times. Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered their time. Tickets are available from the office (phone 4473 7210) ~ costs are $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per school age child (performers, of course, are free!). I encourage you to ring up and book your tickets so that we have an idea as to numbers attending for each performance (the little hall has a limited capacity and you wouldn’t want to miss out!). We would prefer not to have to sell tickets on the night. Approximately fifty students from Cobargo Public School are being invited to the matinee performance. Please spread the word about the performance. It is intended to be a community event, not just restricted to school members and their families. Please encourage your friends to come along to make it a great success.
