Overview
College student retention continues to be a vexing problem for colleges and universities. Nearly half of all
students who attend a college full time will not graduate within six years. This presentation will look at what we
currently know about college student retention and what can be done to improve it. Participants will gain a
general understanding of college student retention and how they can reduce attrition on their campus. The key
goal is to help students meet their academic and personal goals.

Who is the speaker?
Dr. Alan Seidman is a core (full-time) faculty member and the General & Self-Designed Specialization
Coordinator with the Richard W. Riley College of Educational & Leadership at Walden University, MN.
Dr. Seidman has over thirty years of experience in education as a college administrator, educational consultant
and elementary school teacher. He earned his B.A. & M.A. from Glassboro State College (Rowan University), NJ
and his Ed.D. from Syracuse University, NY.
