Eng 124 Mini project (business) Your mini project will be part of the English 124 course work and count for 10% of your grade. The mini project is a research report: you will write 200-250 words* on a successful business in the U.A.E. or the world. Each person in the class must choose a different company. * This word count does NOT include the bibliography. The marks will be made up as follows: 1. Cover page (1%) Your cover page must have a) The project title (in bold print, large font) b) Course name and number (Eng 124) c) Course section d) The student’s name & i.d. e) The teacher’s name f) Date of submission You can also include a picture, if desired, of the company you've chosen. 2. Table of Contents (1%) Your second page must have a table of contents which matches page numbers with the following: a) report b) bibliography page c) appendix (optional). 3. Technical details (1%) Your report must have a) correct font size (12) b) correct font style (Arial) c) the report section double-spaced d) indented paragraphs for the report section e) the bibliography page double-spaced 4. Content of report (6%) – see back for more details Your report must a) be written in your own words (if quotations are made, they must be cited) b) be 200-250 words in length c) contain relevant information d) reach the relevant band level 5. Bibliography (1%) a) Acknowledge all sources and list at least 3. One MUST be a "real" book, newspaper or magazine. The other two can be websites or online data bases (e.g. Electric Library, Proquest, and Lexis-Nexis) b) Alphabetise sources and list them in MLA format. See www.easybib.com Contents You should write about 5 paragraphs: Introduction (short paragraph) Write about the company's background. For example, when was it started? Where is it? Who are key figures (people) in the business? What does it sell? Who are its customers/clients? Body (long – 3 paragraphs) Write THREE paragraphs. Each paragraph should outline a successful point about the company – for example, a strong leader, hard-working staff members, good advertising campaigns, good marketing techniques, location, product, etc. Support all three points with examples. You can quote or paraphrase material, but remember that you should use direct quotes for a maximum of 10% of your report. 90+% should be your own words. Conclusion (short paragraph) Briefly outline where the company is heading. What is the company planning for the future? Do you think it will continue to succeed? Why or why not?
