This is a meeting of bishops representing the whole worldwide Catholic Church: for England & Wales the bishops attending are our Archbishop, Cardinal Vincent, and also the bishop of Northampton diocese. The theme of the Synod is “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and the Contemporary World.” Please use the prayer below to accompany the Synod’s bishops at this important time, and in their discussions and teaching on the crucial issues of Marriage and Family Life. The Church needs to be a beacon of hope for strong marriages, faithfilled children, and therefore a society built up on the love of God learnt in the family. PRAYER TO THE HOLY FAMILY FOR THE OCTOBER 2015 SYNOD Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God's plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer! Amen. _____________________________________________________________ I BELIEVE IN ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH 133. Q. Why is the Church called catholic? A. “Catholic” (Greek kat’ holon) means related to the whole. The Church is catholic because Christ called her to profess the whole faith, to preserve all the Sacraments, to administer them and proclaim the Good News to all; and he sent her to all nations.
