Position Profile
Orono Ice Arena is seeking an experienced Arena Manager to manage its arena. The Arena
Manager is responsible for the full width and breadth of management and operations. Specific
responsibilities include ice installation and maintenance, ice resurfacer maintenance and repairs
and the overall cleanliness of our newly refurbished facility. This position presents exciting and
challenging opportunities for an individual seeking to expand their entrepreneurial talents
managing an exceptional facility.
The arena is home to the Orono High School Boys and Girls hockey programs (Boys Varsity has
gone to the State Tournament in 7 times in the last 13 years) The Orono HS coach is Mark
Parrish who played D1 hockey in Minnesota and had a long tenure in the NHL. The Orono youth
hockey program which plays in the very competitive District 3 MYHA. The Orono Bantam B
team won State in 2015.
The Position
Orono is located 18 minutes west of Minneapolis, MN directly off of Highway 394/12. The
Arena Manager will work with the Orono Ice Arena Board of Directors; a Five-member board
comprised of local community members. The organizational structure is designed to minimize
the decision time frame and political roadblocks that can be found at City or School owned
facilities.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a two-year degree in Parks and Recreation and/or Management,
or related field. Candidates will have demonstrated progressively responsible management
experience of not less then four years; strong written and verbal skills; demonstrated ability to
lead and motivate people. Desirable qualifications include a four-year degree in Parks and /or
Recreation Management.
This position provides for an excellent salary and compensation package that includes holiday
leave, health and dental insurance. The rink is open 10-11 months a year.
Facility Description
Orono Ice Arena was built in 1997 and consists of a 200’ x 100’ ice sheet on a concrete floor
with stadium seating for up to 900 spectators. The arena also features 5 team rooms, a
concession stand, meeting room and coaches office.
Over the past two years the arena has undergone multiple renovations including the replacement
of all rubber flooring in the building and the installation of new benches and wall racks in all
team rooms, new T8 lights, a new state of the art scoreboard and flat screen TVs in the lobby.
The main lobby has been updated to include a new custom epoxy floor and entrance matting.
The arena also features energy efficient mechanical upgrades including a new state-of-the-art
dehumidification and heating system, which utilizes reclaimed heat from the refrigeration plant
instead of natural gas as well as high efficiency fluorescent lighting over the ice surface to
provide an ideal light level for all arena users.
The arena was built entirely by private donations from Orono Youth Hockey and Orono High
School Hockey supporters.
