SCHEDULE:
Williams operates on a 4 x 4 block schedule. Classes meet 90 minutes daily for one
semester.
Description of School:
Located in the heart of Burlington and near Elon University, Walter M. Williams High
School serves a diverse population of approximately 1200 young people with an emphasis
on academic excellence and community involvement. The school opened in 1951 and
began a long tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the cultural arts.
Williams is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools
and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction. We offer a
comprehensive academic program, including Honors and Advanced Placement courses in
all core subjects and a wide selection of career-technical and fine arts electives.
Williams High School is the only school in the Alamance Burlington School System that
offers a National Academy Foundation affiliated Academy of Finance. We also offer a
college credit dual-enrollment program with Elon University, Alamance Community
College, and the NC Virtual Public High School.

RANKING POLICY:
Class rank is determined using a weighted quality point average. Quality points for
each course are equated on the basis of 4,3,2,1, 0 (A,B,C,D,F). One additional point
is added for honors courses. Two additional quality points are added for Advanced
Placement courses. Honors courses are designated with “H” on the transcript and
Advanced Placement courses are designated with “AP” on the transcript.
