Case Studies
We know that a huge amount of time and effort is required to deliver a project successfully. With
more than 20 critical project activities and literally hundreds of project tasks, you really need to
work as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure the success of your project.
To help you to reduce the time spent undertaking each project activity, MPMM offers you the
complete suite of project management Case Studies, supporting every step in the Project Lifecycle.
Each case study provides you with a worked example of a particular project activity (such as
Creating a Project Plan) for a sample project (e.g. for a building and construction project). By
reading these case studies, you will gain a clearer, more detailed understanding of how to apply the
MPMM methodology to deliver your project successfully.

What is a Case Study?
A Case Study is a complete worked example of a particular MPMM project activity. Each Case Study
begins with a profile of the project and the company undertaking it. The Project Manager sets the
scene by describing the type of project, how it came about, its key objectives, required deliverables
and the particular project activity to be undertaken. Then, following the format of the MPMM
Template for that activity, the Case Study works through that activity completely, describing how it
was undertaken and the results it achieved.
Note: Although these Case Studies are based on the experiences of real Project Managers, the
projects, people and organizations described are purely fictional.
Why should I read a Case Study?
By reading MPMM Case Studies, you will learn how other projects have approached and completed
all of the activities in the MPMM Project Lifecycle. You will understand in more detail, the activities
and tasks required to undertake your project successfully. MPMM Case Studies also:
Enhance your knowledge of the Project Management Lifecycle
Provide you with useful examples of activities undertaken by Project Managers
Help you generate ideas for completing each project activity
Give you insight into the steps required to create project deliverables
Save you time by showing you how to complete activities quickly and efficiently
How do I use a Case Study?
First, identify which project activity you are interested in from the table below, then select the
corresponding Case Study and read it from start to finish. Next, if you like, you can compare the
Case Study with the associated MPMM Template for that activity. All Case Studies were completed
using MPMM Templates, so the structure of each Case Study and the corresponding template are
virtually identical. Then, when you are ready to begin the actual activity for your project, you can
fill in the template as you have seen it done in the Case Study.
