Grammar symbols for verb (large red circle), noun and article 6. Prepared labels for each object with a verb (the cat sleeps) Preparation: Previous Function of Word presentations for Noun and Article Age: 4 ½ years (could be done with a younger child orally) Direct Aim: To introduce the child to the written verb – action/doing word. Indirect Aim: To develop the child’s awareness that words have special tasks. Presentation I: “The Action Game” – with Symbol Presentation II: The Farm – with Sentences Vocabulary: The phrase “action/doing word” Points of Interest: 1. Acting out and guessing the action 2. Reading the slip of paper and then adding the verb 3. Thinking of other action words for the same object Control of Error: None Verb Extensions: 1. Introduce prepared labels for the child to do independently. 2. Child makes a list of action words. 3. Introduce action words with actions that may not be visible to others (dream, think, wonder).
