Job Description
Job Title: Executive Director
Report to: Board of Directors
FLSA Status: Exempt/Full-time
Department: Administrative
Position Purpose:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. She is responsible for
implementation of policies set by the Board of Directors as well as overall administration and leadership of
the organization. The CEO works with the Board and staff to develop a vision for the organization’s future
and lay the groundwork for achieving it. She oversees all administrative functions of the organization,
including finances, program management and staffing.
Duties and Responsibilities:



















Ensure agency is actively working toward realizing its mission and vision
Oversee the development of administrative policies and procedures
Maintain Standards for Excellence certification
Ensure programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance
and administration, fundraising, communications and systems
Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals
Lead, coach, develop and retain employees, especially members of the leadership team
Ensure staff have the resources needed to do their jobs
Lead agency planning efforts and benchmark progress toward goals
Provide support and guidance to program directors and department heads
Crisis management
Oversee financial management of organization
Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support program operations
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications, from web presence to external relations with the
goal of creating a stronger brand
Develop relationships with potential partners and school administrators
Explore new venture opportunities
Develop, maintain and support strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee,
seek and build board involvement with strategic direction of organization
Represent organization in the community
Lead by example

Safety and security – the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security
procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
Education and Experience:




Previous experience in a CEO/Executive Director position preferred
Master’s degree plus five years related experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college in the area of business/nonprofit
management or organizational leadership plus five years’ experience; or
A college degree in another subject area plus seven years related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
The employee is expected to adhere to all agency policies and to act as a role model in the adherence to
agency policies.

Daily management of organization
Oversight of all departments
Daily support of director-level staff
Crisis management, on an as-needed basis
Work with department heads to establish work plans and long and short range goals
Monitoring of staff workload
Monitoring of school district contracts and programs
Monitoring of after school and child care programs
Ensure that all legal requirements are fulfilled
Evaluation of program quality
Evaluation of director-level staff
Customer service
Mentoring of new directors
Management of human resource issues, in partnership with Chief Operating Officer
Communication with board, media and families
Marketing of all programs
Market research
Business development
Business planning
Monitoring of cash flow and ability to make payroll
Approval of payroll and accounts payable
Ensure audit is completed on an annual basis and organization complies with all IRS requirements
Lead board and staff
Secretary of the Board
Identification of potential donors and new funding sources
