CALL TO ORDER:
The Meeting was called to order by GK Mark Leuver at 7:30 PM.
2.
Warden’s Report on Membership Cards (Bro. Bill Barry):
All present are in possession of a current membership card.

Report of Admissions Committee and Reading of Applications:
Br. Wally Chaplin read application for Mr. Steve Barris, a parishioner of St. Bernadette’s

Balloting for Membership (New members, readmissions, and reapplications):
Br. Tony Perna made a motion to approve application of Mr. Barris and was seconded by Br.
Dave Peters. Motion passed by unanimous verbal consent. At this point, Br. David Onofrio
made a motion to declare the meeting an “open meeting” so that Mr. Barris could attend.
Motion was seconded by Br. Steve Raedy. Motion passed by unanimous verbal consent.

Reading of Previous Meeting Minutes:
A Motion was made by Bro. Steve Raedy and seconded by Bro. David Onofrio to approve the
minutes of the June meeting as published and distributed to the membership. Motion passed by
unanimous verbal consent.
12.
Grand Knight’s Report:
I would like to encourage you on the efforts of our officers and Directors in planning our
activities for the next year. Please see them for any ideas out find out how you can get involved.
I had the privilege to dine with Fr. Torres and Fr. Robert to discuss what we can do to support
them and bring up ideas the Knights would like to do this next year.
- Bring Parish together
- Promote in the community
- Allowed to go forward with any event, keep in mind Capitol Campaign, and will inform of
events Fr. is not fond of.
I thank all members of the continued support and please see any of the officers or directors or
myself with any questions.
Social Knight is set for 27 August and will be in a “cook-out” style with hot dogs and
hamburgers
Next Business meeting, 14 September, we will hold a 1st degree.

Chaplain’s Report (Fr. Robert Staley):
This Sunday is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is one of the most
important Holy Days of Obligation. Mary is the pledge of the fulfillment of Christ's promise and
represents the Church to come.

The current bank balance as of 31 July 2010 is $ 12048.71, including the following fund

Communications
A thank you card was received from Birthchoice: Thanks to the Knights for their generous
donation to the Gabriel Project at St. Bernadette Church. May God Bless you as He blessed us.

A plaque was received from Wake County Human Services. It is a Community Service Award
presented to the K of C regarding the 2009 Giving Tree, “For your dedication and support shown
to the children and families of the Wake County Foster Care program 2009”
17.
Financial Secretary’s Report (Bro. Wally Chaplin, FS):
Per the 08/01/10 statement from Supreme, we lost two members to withdrawal last month and
now have 147 Associate Members, 62 Insurance Members and 1 Inactive Insurance Member for
a total of 210 Members. Our quota for this new Fraternal Year is 15 new associate members and
5 Insurance members. In addition, we of must also make up the losses.
To date 140 members (67%) are current on their dues for the new 2010 - 2011 Fraternal Year.
We entered the "Extended Grace Period" for Billing and Retention on August 1st. Second
notices were sent to the Brothers in arrears and a list of those members has been sent to the
Retention Committee (comprised of the Grand Knight and Trustees) for them to make personal
contact with the past due members.

Report of Auditors and Trustees (Bro. Dave Peters):
The Trustees conducted their annual audit and submitted their report on time.
19. Chancellor’s Report of Vocations (Bro. Chris Craney):
We are in the process of adopting a Seminarian, Michael Sheetz from St. Joseph’s Parish in
Raleigh. He is entering his 3rd year in the seminary in Philadelphia.
20. Report of Service Program Committees (DGK Steven Raedy):
Congratulations to Luis Terron for accepting the Youth Director position
Youth:
Scout Venture Crew 444 is looking to replace their adult advisor, Mr. Dan Lee, who is relocating
to Japan. Please see Br. Jim O’Donnell if you are interested or know of someone who may be
qualified for the position.
Luis introduced himself and remarked that he will be bridging the activities between the
Hispanic and Anglo youth of the Parish. Soccer Challenge is the first event up coming. Details
to follow
Church:
No report
Family:
Family picnic is currently being planned for October 2, 2010 at Harris Lake. Date may change
due to possible conflicts. The Catholic Daughters will be invited to participate. More to come.
Council:
Talent Show set for January 22, 2011. $100 Grand prize. Auditions to be held in September.
St. Bernadette Parish Fair is scheduled for May 6, 2011. We need help with advertising,
marketing, and sponsors. More details to follow. January, Spring Fest (not on Memorial Day
Weekend). Oktoberfest in 2011, Family picnic, and others.
Community:
In the works: Food Pantry work, soup kitchen, blood pressure screening, other humanitarian
needs. Brs. Dave Dillman and Nick Longo to assist Br. Nick with community efforts. Contact

Pro-Life:
Consideration needs to be given to the Baby bottle campaign as well as how we can assist with
RATI (Room at the Inn). Our Council will get credit for any donations given to RATI provided
you indicate this on their website or in your donation documents.
Membership:

LAMB:
Tootsie Roll dates are set for Sept 4, Oct 2 at the Walmart in Holly Springs and Sept 18 at the
Kroger in Fuquay-Varina. Br. Dave Onofrio will be sending out requests for help.

Report of Standing Committees:
Pancake Breakfasts
Br. Tim Hughes will take the lead on organizing pancake breakfast teams. We soulf be able to
hold one PCB in September before the hall becomes unusable (Sanctuary construction). Oct and
Nov are unresolved. December will be available for the next one in the hall.
Blood Drives
Scheduled for September 16th (Rex Healthcare)

Unfinished Business:
Fraternal Year 2011 Operating Budget was approved prior to the motion to move Business
Meeting to an “Open Meeting”
23.
New Business:
Defined: Business brought to table that has been discussed, but requires monies outside of
budgeted amounts, that will need to be voted on. Bring activities and ideas to GK, DGK and
Directors for discussion and review and then raise a motion during the New Business portion of
the Council meeting.
THE BELOW BUSINESS (held over from July) WILL BE ADDRESSED DURING THE
SEPTEMBER BUSINESS MEETING…POSTPONED ACTION DUE TO OPEN MEETING
FORMAT.
A. Br. Mike Mroz raised motion to close the Life Memorial fund to return the appropriate
portion back to the RLM and to direct the remaining Council funds ($1036.84) toward a pro-life
event or similar. Motion was seconded by Br. Tony Perna. Br. Jim O’Donnell motioned to
amend the original motion for tabling and discussion with Fr. Torres. Amended motion was
seconded by Br. Dave Onofio. Objection by Br. Mike Mroz is duly noted, with amended motion
passing by verbal consent. (to be taken up next month as unfinished business)
B. Br. Mike Mroz proposed a motion to direct $200 to Project Gabriel to assist a man in need.
Motion seconded by DGK Br. Steve Raedy. No discussion, motion passed unanimously by
verbal consent.

Report of Fourth Degree:
Fr. H. Charles Mulholland Assembly #2983 (FN Rick Lewis):
FN SK Rick Lewis provided the Council with an update on the Assemblies activities including
the 20/20 Raffle Ticket fundraiser and a request for 3rd degree Knights to consider joining the 4th
degree. The next 4th degree Exemplification will be 6 November in Charlotte. He requested
prayers for the District Master who is ill.

District Deputy’s Report (Bro. Bob Caron, District Deputy):
Greetings from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, the Supreme Board of Directors, and State
Deputy Dave R. Jones.
Compliments to the GK…the Council is “off and running”! Looking forward to a fantastic year.
However, membership is important. If we are not growing we are dying!
There will be a 1st degree held at the Cary Council on 23 August
27. Good of the Order:
Lecturer Tony Perna’s monthly reflection was on How God works in our daily lives and His
“Divine Connection” was very inspirational. He opened with a reading from James 4:7. Br. Tony
challenged us to think back to when we met someone who inspired us and who ultimately helped,
in some way, to form us into who we are today. He left us with a very powerful quote,”
Unless we look for HIS FINGERPRINT we will miss HIS TOUCH”.

32. Attendance drawing:
The name of Br. Eugene was drawn. Bro. Eugene was in attendance to collect the $10
attendance prize. Next month the attendance prize will reset to $10. Your dues must be current
to be eligible for the attendance prize.
