The field of Ecology will be discussed over five days followed by a multiple-choice exam.
Students will be expected to prepare notes in advance for each of the discussion days. Notes for
the fifth day will cover a topic of the student’s choice.

symbiosis, trophic structure, ecological succession, biodiversity

 Chap 55 Ecosystems: energy flow through ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles (water,
carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus), biological magnification

 Chap 56 Conservation biology and human impact on the biosphere: Discussion of global
issues (NOTE: Investigate an ecological problem or issue of your choice—its causes,
consequences, and possible solutions. Every student will be expected to participate in the
class discussion.)
