EV 301 – Evangelism Methods and Practices Syllabus Bro. Bryan Samms I. Course Description Evangelism Methods and Practices is a practical course designed to teach the evangelist some of the basic ministry skills that he will need to possess particularly in the early years of evangelism. II. Course Objectives A. B. C. III. To give practical information concerning the evangelist and his day-to-day schedule, communication, travel, finances, and home location To give guidance for the evangelist to help a church prepare for a revival campaign. To help a student understand how to get into evangelism. Course Requirements A. Lecture Notes and Supplemental handouts can be found at samms.wcbc.edu. Each student is expected to download these notes to their computers or print them for a notebook. This can be checked at any time by the professor. B. If a student misses a class for any reason, it is the responsibility of the student to get the notes from another student or the instructor. C. Projects 1. On Monday, September 23rd, a 750 word (minimum) paper will be due. This paper will deal with the following: a. A biblical description of the gift of the evangelist (please use Scripture references) b. A description of the daily work of the evangelist. c. A philosophy of the evangelist's relationship with the pastor and the church as a whole 2. On Monday, October 21st, a 750 word (minimum) paper will be due. Choose an evangelist from the past and describe what, in the student's opinion, made him effective in his preaching and ministry. 3. On Monday, November 25th, a 750 word (minimum) paper will be due. a. Each student will be required to interview (in person or over the phone) at least two full-time evangelists. b. You must ask them the following questions: 1. How did you get into evangelism? 2. How do you travel? With family? In a trailer? What do they recommend for a young evangelist? 3. What is their relationship to their home church Pastor? 4. What is their goal for a revival meeting? 5. What is their weekly schedule? c. Summarize your material and draw some conclusions for yourself in the paper. IV. IV. Spiritual and Academic Integrity 1. Attendance: Students may not miss more than 15% of the class meetings. It is your responsibility to keep up with your attendance on the portal. You will be notified by my office when you have missed 10%. You will be automatically dropped from the class at 15%. Only the academic office can help you if you reach the 15% mark. For this class you can miss 2 class periods. 2. Academic Honesty: a. Cheating is lying. It dishonors God. Don’t do it. b. Plagiarism - The practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. Please do your own work. There are no short cuts to a successful life and ministry. Do the work. Laziness and lack of character will catch up with you somewhere. V. Grading No work will be accepted late. 1. Tests – 25% 2.
