Course Description: The clinical lab offers the student the opportunity for guided practice of expanded physical assessment skills, especially those psychomotor skills new to the associate degree nurse. Course Structure and Approach: This required laboratory that is completed concurrently with NUR 307 provides the opportunity for guided psychomotor skill development and refinement with a community preceptor or with NAU faculty in a lab session. A final clinical proficiency check-off is required with NAU faculty; students from outside Arizona may make arrangements to have a qualified preceptor conduct the final exam in their local community. Course outline: See NUR 307 Assessment of Student Learning: Assessment of mastery of health assessment and health history skills are assessed across the course in assigned papers (graded in NUR 307) and in the final clinical proficiency check-off at the end of the course. Grading system: This is a PASS/FAIL lab. In order to earn a PASS, the student must pass the final clinical proficiency check-off at the end of the course with NAU faculty or designee. NUR 307L must be successfully completed along with NUR 307 in order to progress. Course policies: Retests/makeup tests: Alternate scheduling of final clinical proficiency check-off will be provided only in extraordinary circumstances and require arrangements with faculty prior to scheduled date. If a student is unsuccessful in the first attempt of the final clinical proficiency exam, a re-test may be scheduled with the instructor after a remediation session is completed. Only one retest is allowed, and should be scheduled within one to two weeks of the original exam.
