Arabic proverbs
Often an Arabic proverb will seem to have an equivalent in English. Sometimes it is almost an exact
equivalent, as in the Arabic proverbs:
 If speech is silver, then silence is golden.
 Love is blind.
 He whose house is made of glass should not throw stones.
Some Arabic proverbs have near-equivalents, as in the following.
1. Need brings ways.
2. I Hear noise but see no grinding.
3. What comes with ease goes with ease.
4. Send your son to the marketplace and see with whom he associates.
5. Man plans and God manages.
6. A bird in the hand is better than ten on a tree.
7. A seeker of knowledge and a seeker of money never meet.
8. Too many cooks burn the food.
9. Repetitive visits cause boredom.
10. Save your white coin for a black day.
11. One hand does not clap.
12. Time is gold.
13. Sleep early and wake up early and see how healthy you will be.
14. God helps his subjects so long as they help one another.
15. Who works achieves and who sows reaps.
16. Never postpone today’s work until tomorrow.
17. Ask a man of experience rather than a doctor.
18. Don’t cut the tree that shades you.
19. The close ones have prior claim on your favor.
20. A monkey in his mother’s eye, is a gazelle.
21. Kindness will draw a bird.
22. He who branded others should be stoic when branded himself.
23. If you see a lion’s teeth, don’t mistake it for a smile.
24. We call him father, the one that mother married.

W. All talk no action. The proof is in the pudding.
