Age of Exploration: Class Activities YELLOW CLASS Due: Monday, September 26 Please choose two activities to complete by Monday, September 26. All work will be done in class and/or at home. ALL students must complete the center square activity, the ‘baseball card’ on Prince Henry the Navigator. Draw a Ship Model The Explorer Channel Navigation School Create a drawing of a caravel, one of the early ships of the Age of Exploration. Identify the unique features of the ship. Create a script for a TV about explorers. Interview at least 3 (three) explorers. Include facts about their journey & achievements. You must provide a written script and you can record your interviews! Chart the Routes Baseball Card Prince Henry the Navigator You are a student at Prince Henry's school. Research the compass or astrolabe. Make an astrolabe and/or compass from that time period. Include detailed instructions on how it is used. Teach the class how to use it! Old World/New World Make a drawing of the map of the world and trace the routes of Vasco da Gama, Magellan, or Christopher Columbus. Label and date the routes, provide a color key , & label the world map. Include a timeline for each voyage. A Sailor's Journal Write a journal as a crewmember of the first voyage of Christopher Columbus. It must be at least 2 pages with 3 or more entries; illustrations may be included! Create a baseball card on Prince Henry the Navigator. ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THIS ACTIVITY Exploration Rhyme Create a mural (draw or paint) or collage (pictures pasted) with the Old World (Europe of the 15/16th centuries) on one side and the New World (Americas of the 15/16th centuries). Include a written paragraph explaining your picture choices. Crossword Puzzle Write a song or poem on Design a crossword puzzle the Age of Exploration. that uses 20 vocabulary The song or poem must be words about exploration 3-4 stanzas. Include & colonization. Include a information about the list of the words, their explorers and the New definition and a World. crossword puzzle using the words.
