Mission Statement The Holliston Public Schools are committed to providing the resources and opportunities that will enable each student to develop and maximize individual potential in a positive and collaborative environment that encourages and affirms academic achievement and personal excellence. School and Community Administration The town of Holliston was founded in 1724. It is a residential community located in Middlesex County, 24 miles west of Boston, with a population of 14,937. Students attend Placentino Elementary School (K-2), Miller Elementary (3-5), Adams Middle School (6-8) prior to enrolling at Holliston High School. GPA is based on a 4.33 (A+) scale. Class Standing and GPA are calculated at the end of each semester. At the completion of the 08-09 school year, the highest GPA for the Class of 2009 was 4.16. Transcript Interpretation Holliston High School is a comprehensive high school which operates on a block schedule. All major courses meet daily for 77 minutes for one semester (two terms) and receive 1 credit. Some AP courses meet for three terms and students receive 1.5 credits. Other courses meet for one term and students receive .5 credit. All students are required to take four academic courses each term. There are no study periods. The block schedule was implemented in 1996. Students at the high school level have one course per year in the target language and continue through the AP French Program in their senior year. Communicative proficiency through content-based instruction is the overall goal of the program. Extracurricular Activities A wide variety of extracurricular activities are available to students to enhance social experiences and personal growth. Activities include interscholastic athletics, publications, community service and clubs focused on the arts, science, math and social awareness.
