Packaging Developer / Production Coordinator Position Overview The Packaging Developer is responsible for design, specification, prototyping, release-topress and approval of point-of-sale packaging, displays and gift sets The Packaging Developer is responsible for development timing within the execution cycle The Packaging Developer is responsible for design of materials that are on-strategy per supplied briefs The Packaging Developer operates and maintains PMI’s package prototyping equipment The Packaging Developer supports Operations and QA throughout the package sampling, transit testing and manufacturing process Essential Functions Packaging and Display Design and Engineering a) Works with Product Manager and Design Lead to determine proper point-of-sale function for packaging and/or displays, gift sets b) Works with QA to determine any quality requirements, define protocols as necessary c) Engineers die lines to these specifications, collaborating with Product Manager and Design Lead to ensure functions are met d) Ensures timelines are held within this process Packaging and Display Production e) Coordinates pre-press, spec and release of packaging, displays and gift sets f) Supports Operations in any issues with vendors g) Light communication with vendors regarding capabilities h) Tracks projects throughout the development process i) Evaluation, comment and rejection/approval of vendor samples j) Occasion support of Operations in design of master cartons and shipping fills for items experiencing difficulty in transit test k) Works to ensure transit test is passed for displays and gift sets inside necessary time window Prototyping l) Utilizes PMI’s prototyping equipment to create prototypes for development and Sales purposes m)Maintains this equipment, including troubleshooting and supplies Production Coordinator a) Help to gathering of preliminary information for all possible print jobs for PPM in Shanghai. b) Communication of key dates for print production: X-factory / Bulk production / Final art approval / Artwork to press c) Identification of printing specs: Inks, Stocks, Measurements, Varnish, Elastic, Adhesive d) Communicate quantities for print jobs e) Review preliminary quotations for printing – with close advising from Design/prepress on final technical specs f) Receive, track, and archive all sample proofs that come to Seattle from Asia. • Setting up meetings for reviewing of proofs and/or routing of proofs for approvals. • Follow-up with internal clientele for any outstanding proof approvals. (Brands and Starbucks) g) Communicate approvals/changes to PPM for communication to Vendors and final assembly factories. h) Communicate and negotiate for all US printing projects GX, Tradeshows, and Marketing collateral Other duties as necessary Interaction and Environment Reports To: Design Manager Work areas are inside in a climate-controlled environment with moderate background noise. Balance of time (approximately 5%) is spent moving around work areas. Speaking/Hearing: Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers and outside agencies, by telephone and in person. Vision: Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork. Lifting/Carrying: Ability to transport files and supplies. Stooping/Kneeling: Ability to access files and supplies. Reaching/Handling: Ability to input information into computer systems and retrieve and work with appropriate paperwork, equipment and supplies. Proficiencies Solid skills on Mac and PC in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office. Expert skills in Adobe Illustrator preferred. Understanding of properties, terminology and specifications surrounding corrugate, paperboard and sheet plastics. Understanding of packaging printing/manufacturing/assembly process Creative, with strong geometric and problem solving abilities. Understanding of point-of-sale packaging requirements and solutions. Ability to operate Kongsberg sample table and Artios CAD preferred. Ability to troubleshoot software and machines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical ability with active listening skills. Exhibit a professional, business like appearance and demeanor. Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person and over the phone. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or trade degree in Graphic Design, Packaging, or equivalent related experience. Five (5) years of experience in packaging development.
