Exhibit - Number - Name:
Living in Balance - C.04. - Case Study
Exhibit Overview:
Through a computer interactive the visitors choose to visit one of five countries and help
the content expert decide which water system is needed for that specific area in the
world. In order to choose the visitors need to first become aware of the geography,
economics, technology and politics of the community.
Objectives:
The user will…
 Understand that different cultures have different water access depending on geography,
economics, and education.

Learn that simple systems can make dramatic changes in a community.

Understand that the system must fit the community.

Use critical thinking to match or design water systems with communities.
Interactive Description:
1. We begin with a water systems designer who is planning to bring water to five different
areas in the world. The visitor is asked to assist in this task. This part will be video footage
of the designer (content expert) speaking from his office.
2. The content expert invites the visitors to choose one of five countries where they could build a
water system. Then the visitor clicks on a picture of a country to activate a short video about the
country, its communities, and water systems. Video footage provided by C.A.R.E. will be used
for this portion of the interactive.
3. The screen then displays the types of water systems which the visitor can select or design. Very
accurate drawings will be display in this area. The visitor makes a selection. More than one water
system may work for the community.
This area will become as complex as our budget will permit, i.e., if our budget is small the visitor will
only be able to choose an already designed system and just match it with the community. If the
budget permits, the visitor will be able to design the system for the site. This section will be fully
animated or will be a mixture of photographs and animation.
4. Correct selections trigger footage of a community celebration.
5. Incorrect selections: a water specialist tells why the selection was inappropriate, then the visitor
can select again.
