System Enhancement Feedback - Local Insights
The feedback received during the ePlanning Roadshow was reviewed by the
ePlanning team and the most frequently requested items have been placed in
one of 3 sections below, along with an explanation for the placement of the
suggestion.
1. Will be implementing / already implemented
The system enhancement suggestions within this section will be made within the
Local Insights tool in future editions, or is functionality that is currently possible.

Integration with Census data
The demographic projections displayed within
Local Insights are already based on the
census data.
Ability for the tool to geo locate
development activity near you
The Local Insights tool automatically loads
the local government area where the device
is located when you open this tool. You will
be able to identify development activity by
zooming to the area of interest.
Amendment to the graph display so
that all graphs have the same set of
values on the Y-axis.
This will be included in version 3.0 of this
tool.
Provision of a list of sources
information within the tool.
This will be included in version 3.0 of this tool
in the form of links to the source data.
Addition of the population figure, not
just the projection information
This will be included in version 3.0 of this
tool. The base population figure will be
included to give context to the population
projection statistics.
Inclusion of CDC statistics as well as
DAs
This will be included in version 3.0 of this
tool.
Inclusion of green space, vegetation
maps and wildlife corridors
This will be included in version 3.0 of this tool
and will likely include the amount of green
space per person, proximity to green space
or the amount of residential space per
person.

2. Considering
The system enhancements within this section will be investigated to determine the
ability to include these suggestions in future versions of the Local Insights tool.

Inclusion of school catchment areas
We are investigating the ability to include the
number of schools, or schools per child within
the statistics for each local government area.
Inclusion of Department major
projects and State Significant
projects tracking information
This is being investigated to determine the
ability to include this data within the Local
Insights tool.
Addition of the link to the relevant DA
information on the Council website
This is being scoped at the moment to
determine the ability to include the link to the
relevant DA information on the Council
website.
The days per development type for
DAs to be included in the LGA
statistics
This will be considered as part of the scope
of version 3.0 of the tool.
Regional level statistics
We are investigating the ability to include this
information to provide context for the local
government area data, in version 3.0.
Inclusion of crime statistics for a local
government area
We are investigating the ability to include this
information in future releases of the tool.
Ability to register for DA tracking
notifications through the Local
Insights tool rather than going to
Planning Alerts
This functionality is part of another project but
we will investigate the ability to include this
within Local Insights in future releases.
Inclusion of local amenities
This will be investigated to determine whether
a suitable dataset exists.
Inclusion of health information for a
local area
This will be investigated to determine whether
a suitable dataset exists.
Showing determined DAs on the
Local Insights tool as well as current
This will be considered. It will require the
ability to visibly show the difference between
current and old DAs on the map to avoid user
confusion.
Ability to view commercial hubs and
business types
It is possible to introduce business types and
sectors into Local Insights. We will
investigate the cost effectiveness and time
frame that this could occur.

3. Will not be including within the tool
The system enhancement suggestions within this section are not within the scope of
the Local Insights tool in the foreseeable future.
Enhancement Suggestion
Colour the DA tracking pins by the
status of the application
Explanation
This is not able to occur without a significant
change to the data feed. This is not in scope
at this point of time and is a long term
objective.
Include real estate information such
The datasets required to implement these
as occupancy rates, industrial leases, requests are not currently openly available in

Suburb level statistics
The Local Insights tool had been designed to
provide information at the local government
area as that is the level of granularity we have
access to for the various datasets.
Providing the map in street view
This is currently not in scope as the display of
information on top of the street view makes it
difficult for the user to read.
Amendment to the colours in the
chart
The colours used in the Local Insights tool
are part of the Department’s style guide.
There are no plans to amend this in the
foreseeable future.
Display the businesses within the
local area
The Business Register data is listed by
business name and place of registration, not
the location of the business. This means that
the type of business is unable to be
referenced to a particular area with certainty
that the business operates in that area.
Identify the CDCs by Council and
Private Certifier
At present we are unable to identify the
certifying authority for the CDCs. This may be
considered at a later date.
Include the dollar value by DA type
The dollar value by DA type is not currently
available. If this should change in the future
we will consider the inclusion of this
information.
LEP Exhibition information
This is currently not within the scope for Local
Insights.
