Thirty (30) students having a 2.5 GPA (with some exceptions) and a commitment to completing 35 service learning hours a semester will be recruited into the fellowship program. The service-learning activities will improve students’ connection to the campus and community, providing peer network and support, and connecting them with academic and other resources for adjustment and success. A financial incentive of a $250 school book voucher per semester will be awarded to the students who complete the requirements each semester. Students will participate in a service learning project to be implemented by the OSLCE in collaboration with Woodward High School Students and the United North Community. Students should expect a commitment of approximately 3 hours each week to be spent in program activities. 2) Description of Project Activities I. II. III. Connecting Students with existing campus academic, social, and professional support resources. Meet individually, once a semester with Dean of Students Develop opportunities for mentoring by retired faculty When needed, students will be referred to campus services/resources as needed Reflection topics will be Integrated into writing assignments Attend presentations by various college faculty and support staff Peer Support Built through group service & reflection activities Two service learning ambassadors (peer-mentoring) will be available to offer guidance Social mixers at each semester Service-Learning experiences 35 service hours (including reflections hours) per semester group service (twice a month) Group reflection sessions in each semester Semester-end individual reflection papers (3-5 pages) – each semester Other opportunities for personal development First Year Experience (FYE) Service Learning Fellowship Program 2008-2009 Application PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY OR TYPE.
