THINGS TO DO & HAND IN THIS SEMESTER
SPA 101
1. Hand in Workbook on day of test (prior to the test): (drop lowest) - 10 pts.
Correct mistakes in red (answers in back). DON’T JUST ERASE YOUR
MISTAKES! Show them! Pay special attention to the Diario at the end. This
counts a lot. Do 40+ words. Grace until next ch. is due. 2 graces only per
semester! After this, lose 1 pt. per week. **Always write out the Repasemos sections.**
2. Textbook Audio online: gives audio of all sections in text marked with headset. Use at the
beginning of chapter to hear all vocab & new words pronounced.
3. Videos: each chapter has a 5-part Videoteca: Minidrama & En contexto (10 pts.), Entrevista &
Entre Amigos, and the Perspectiva Cultural with open-book quizzes (5 pts.). You need to read the
material beforehand. There are no makeups for these even when you have an excused absence. Can
drop 2 videotecas and 1 Panorama.
4. Lab Day: we will meet one day per chapter in the Lab for class. Lab day
Bring a blank cassette if you want to record the class so you can listen to it afterward.

5. Cultural Center Hours- You are required to do 5 hrs. in the Cultural Center sometime during the
semester. Check the website http://llcc.oru.edu to see instructions, list of DVD’s and hours. Click on
“Professor’s Notes” to get my specific requirements. You will do a variety of videos, work on the
computer, etc. These hours are separate though from time spent on your workbook and tech
assignments! You will need to log into Vision with your Z # and go to Cultural Center Hours
Tracker under Student Services. Make sure you log out correctly and describe in detail what you
did. A good suggestion is to watch videos about Central America, the Mayans and Aztecs, since this
is an emphasis in 101. Also the Standard Deviants videos and Rosetta Stone are excellent review.

The CD Tesoros is strongly advised since it goes along with Puntos. It is a mystery you have to
solve over the next 3 semesters. You will earn a certificate when finished. This can be shown for
extra credit in 203.
**There will be a 30 pt. test each chapter. Your lowest will be dropped. There are no makeups for
the oral part of these tests (can be 30-40% of test) even if you have an excused absence. You would
count it as your dropped quiz.
**There will be a 100 pt. Mid Term.
**In addition, there will be numerous vocab and verb “pop” quizzes worth 5-10pts. each. None of
these can be made up but 10 pts. worth will be dropped.
NOTE: HOMEWORK MUST BE DONE EACH DAY. IT WILL BE SPOT-CHECKED.
Several assignments from the Suppl. Book will be handed in. Failure to do so will lose points.
REQUIRED TO JOIN FACEBOOK! We will be communicating with each other through the 101
group. Assignments etc. will be posted frequently. Check messages at least twice per week.

6. Extra Credit
- Spanish Club - Xtra credit reports in English- 1 pg. due about 1 week after meeting.
EACH MEETING COUNTS 1% OF YOUR FINAL GRADE!!!!
There are 4 club meetings, giving you a total of 4% on your final grade! Go to one Spanish Church
to substitute one of those meetings.
- Redacción- at end of each chapter will provide a chance to write compositions in Spanish for up to
5 extra points. 50-75 words, double-spaced! Due the day after test. Cannot turn in late. If you miss
it, just work on the next one. These will help you prepare for a 10 pt. composition written in class.
7. Technology DayThere will be 2 tech tareas per chapter. Each week’s assignment is 10 pts and is due
usually on the Monday. There is 1 week grace (3 graces allowed). The 2nd week,
lose 1 pt., 3rd week lose 2. After this, there is no turning in. Out of the 14 tech
assignments, 2 will be dropped. Use Culture Center or your own computer. *You
need: Windows 95+, Real One Audio (or Windows Media Player), Quicktime,
Internet Explorer or Navigator 4.0+, Macromedia Shockwave (get off website for
free).
A. Online Learning Center (OLC) Log on to www.mhhe.com/puntos8 or access it through the
Cultural Center website. Click on the Student Center and it will tell you what programs you will
need to download. You can read the NY Times in Spanish or do the Flash Gram. Tutorial, if you
want. Work your way through the entire chapter:
1. Flashcards- over 100 words (saves you making your own) (can access from
www.mhhe.com/puntos7 website only!)
- view by term- word is given in Spanish; by definition- given in English
- can mark certain ones and then just view those (ie. the ones you get wrong)
2. Quizzes- Vocab & Gram.- Cut and paste the scores of each quiz (your FIRST TRY!) into one
page, print and turn in. If the scoring is in question, you can print the entire quiz to be rechecked. Be
careful when typing your answers! It will be marked wrong if you put an extra space at the end or
forget the period. OLC is usually due the 1st Monday of the chapter.
Extra cr. Do all 3 videoteca exercises to improve your videoteca score.**
B. ACTIVITY PAK (comes with text)- usually due the 2nd Monday of the chapter.
At the bottom you have Verb Charts, Maps, link to website, Flash Gram. Tutorial, and a Dictionary
for your use. Work your way through the entire chapter: (You can print individual pages if you
wish.)
1. Vocab & Gram. (each have about 3 activities)
2. Panorama Cultural (Conozca) - click on the Nota cultural on the left for more information.
¿Cuánto sabe Ud.?
3. Videoteca- a. En Contexto- Comprensión (listen ahead to prepare for video in class).
b. Conversación - listen and answer questions. You will lose pts. if you skip this section.
4. Lectura y escritura- write a paragraph in Spanish. You lose pts. if you skip this.
5. Un poco de todo: usually 5 sections including Prueba cultural and Juego Interactivo. Exit from
button “Salir” or “Tarjeta de puntos.” Your scores will pop up. Select the sections you have scored
and right click to print (or choose print from top of page). You will have about a 6 pg. summary of
all your scores and amount of time spent on each. It will record your first try. Staple these pages and
turn in. Do not exit until you see if it has printed successfully!
