Once you put a letter in a mailbox, postal workers keep your letter moving until it reaches the address you wrote on it. 4. A postal worker takes your letter to the post office in trucks. Postal clerks empty mailbags into a machine. A computer sorts the mail by the zip code on the envelope. 6. Another postal worker puts the mail into another machine that cancels or marks the stamp in a certain way. This is so it cannot be used again. 8. A postal worker then takes the out of town mail by truck to the airport. It is sent to a regional office and another computer will sort it again. 10. Finally, a postal worker delivers your mail to its final address. Postal workers work all night to deliver your mail as fast as possible. 12. Mail without a correct address or without a zip code cannot be sorted automatically. This mail will take much longer to reach its address. 14. Sometimes a postal worker cannot deliver a piece of mail. Maybe it got torn or the address could not be read. Then the mail will be returned to the sender listed in the return address. 16. If mail cannot be delivered and has no return address, it goes to the Mail Recovery Center office. Sometimes the Post Office has a sale of “undeliverable” packages. 18. Postal workers that you see in the post office sell stamps and other things. Many more postal workers in the back of the post office run the computers that sort the mail. 20. When mail carriers get their mail, they sort it by the house numbers. Then they deliver the mail that has traveled many miles with the help of many postal workers. 22.
