Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Canada, Ltd. (MHPSC) is a major supplier of complex welding, precision machining, assembly, and field services to the energy industry in Canada and around the world. We are currently seeking a permanent, full-time Production Manager to join our management team at our manufacturing plant in Saskatoon. Production Manager The Production Manager role is a senior position responsible for leading all production activities and functions in the execution of MHPSC business and project commitments. The Production Manager is part of the Operations and Management teams and as such, works closely with managers from various functions including sales, project management, engineering, supply chain management, finance, HR and maintenance to ensure all project execution commitments are met. Responsibilities: Develops and implements plans to efficiently use labour, equipment, material and other resources to meet production targets and commitments. Leads by example in regards to safe work practices and building/maintaining a safe work culture and work environment at all times. Plans and implements production systems and methods of work through continuous monitoring of product commitments, flow and processes. Promotes and ensures a high level of teamwork, collaboration and cooperation throughout the entire production and operations team. Provides a mix of hands-on leadership to support day-to-day activities, while also utilizing a strategic mindset to ensure mid-long term success. Works closely with the Sales team in ensuring that quotations and potential business aligns with both short and long term opportunities for MHPSC. Works dynamically with various partners and stakeholders (Supply Chain Management, Project Management, etc.) as required in ensuring that materials, production processes, drawings and timelines coincide with the capabilities and resources of the production team. Strives for continuous improvement in safety, teamwork, efficiency, costing, project execution and other related lean manufacturing principles. Identifies gaps and opportunities for improvement, and develops/implements a strategy and plan on how to improve. Proactively seeks out operational and functional process changes that eliminate waste and excess costs in the MHPSC business processes, ensuring execution at optimal cost levels. This shall include proposing changes to machinery and equipment to implement various levels of continuous improvement. Ensures that all appropriate stakeholders are aware of the production schedules and the impact that the schedules will have (materials needs, personnel needs, drawing needs, engineering needs, etc.). Works with the Human Resources team in recruiting, selecting and hiring production personnel. Manages performance utilizing both a formal and informal approach, while ensuring robust succession/development plans are formulated and implemented to help ensure the long term success of the organization. Works with the Human Resources team in assessing training needs and ensures appropriate execution. Possesses a customer service approach to ensure all product produced meets or exceeds customer expectations. Works with the General Manager, Operations in developing and implementing direction, policy and strategy to ensure the short and long term success of the organization. Supports and ensures accuracy of the ERP system, production controls, scheduling and planning. Ensure individual and the teams’ compliance with all applicable corporate policies and procedures. Other duties and projects as assigned. Requirements: A University degree or technical diploma related to business or engineering is preferred, a combination of related training and considerable experience may be considered an equivalent. 7-10 years of proven experience and leadership in the areas of manufacturing, operations, planning and continuous improvement. Experience working in a custom metal manufacturing facility is preferred. Strong personnel leadership and coaching skills. Effective communication, planning and time management skills. Related professional designation is an asset. Strong computer skills, with experience and proficiency in using ERP systems and the Microsoft Office Suite. Strong interpersonal skills.
