NON-COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRANCE INTO UPPER-DIVISION COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS COURSES Students are eligible to enroll in lower division business courses after completing 24 credits with at least a 2.5 grade point average. Admission to the upper-division courses in the College of Business and Economics requires completion of 54 credits, including the pre-requisite core (below), and a grade point average of 2.80. 3. COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRANCE INTO UPPER-DIVISION COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS COURSES To be admitted to register for the upper-division courses in the College of Business and Economics (COBE), students must complete 54 credits and satisfactorily complete or be enrolled in the required business core courses. Some of these may be completed at UW Colleges and are listed below: BUS 201 Introductory Accounting BUS 204 Managerial Accounting (Accounting Majors take BUS 202 Intermediate Accounting) ECO 203 Macroeconomics ECO 204 Microeconomics MAT 210 Finite math MAT 211 Calculus (for Accounting, Economics and Finance majors only) BUS 230 Introduction to Management Information Systems BUS 243 Business Statistics 4. COURSES REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION NOT IN UW COLLEGES’ CURRICULUM None, although some UW Colleges campuses may not offer BUS 202 (Intermediate Accounting), BUS 204 (Managerial Accounting) or BUS 230 (Introduction to Information Systems) on a frequent basis. 5. GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS As a general rule, students should earn the Associate of Arts and Science Degree at the UW College, since it will satisfy all proficiency, core and breadth requirements at UW-Whitewater. See a Student Services advisor for help on sequencing School of Business and Economics lower division courses into the Associate Degree program. Students who transfer to Whitewater without the Associate Degree must complete general education requirements as listed below. Communication and Calculation Skills English ENG 101 (or exemption) and 102 Speech CTA 103 Mathematics MAT 105 or MAT 110 Quantitative and Technical Reasoning Lab Science 4-5 credits MAT 210 3-4 credits (required for admission to COBE) Personal Health/Fitness HES 127 1-2 credits Additional Electives/Breadth Requirements (To bring total general education to 44 credits) Social Science (Any course designated SS) ECO 203 3 credits (required for admission to COBE) Arts, Humanities (Any courses designated FA or HU) Core Requirements total 12 credits and is part of the General Education requirement. The Core Requirement is four 3-credit courses. There are no equivalents to these at UW Colleges. These courses include: GENED 110 World of the Arts GENED 120 U.S. World Context or 900-140 Global Perspectives GENED 130 Individual and Society GENED 390 World of Ideas Transfer students without the Associate of Arts and Science Degree may satisfy CORE requirements according to the scheme listed below. Credits Transferred Student must complete 0-20 All Core courses 21-39 Two Core courses (including 900-390) 40 or more GENED 390 only Earned Associate Degree None (all Core Courses satisfied) 6. SPECIAL NOTES Maximum number of credits transferable from UW Colleges - 72 As a general rule, students should only take elective courses on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (pass/fail) basis. International Requirement: this is a new requirement for graduation from UW Whitewater's College of Business and Economics that may be satisfied by taking any one of the following at your UW College campus : ANT 100 General Anthropology, ANT 204 Cultures of the World, GEO 110 World Regional Geography, ANT 104 Cultural Anthropology or BUS 244 Introduction to International Business. You may easily complete this requirement upon transfer to Whitewater if you choose. Students who are missing one or two of the lower division business courses may still be admitted to COBE but will be required to complete these requirements during the first semester as a COBE student. College Volunteer Requirement. Students are required to complete 20 hours of volunteer work prior to graduation. Verification of this requirement is required.
