David. Because of the challenges involved in assessing the make‐up of a slider bun and the nature of a "snack", Rabbi Korobkin recommends that one wash and recite hamotzi, with intent to continue the meal at the wedding reception. SHORT VORT "Speak little, but do much." This maxim from Pirkei Avos is manifest in Avraham Avinu's behaviour. He offers the angels a bit of water and some bread, but in fact prepares for them (with the help of Sara and Yishmael) a sumptuous meal. The Mishna states that Avraham's meal for the strangers was proportionally greater than even the feast of Shlomo HaMelech in celebration of the building of the Beit HaMikdash. Avraham and Sara are the ultimate models for hospitality, one of the hallmarks of the Jewish People. We must learn from them and emulate them. QUESTIONS FOR VAYEIRA BY: THE RAV First Aliyah: (18:1) Why does the Torah detail that Avraham was in the plains of Mamre? Who is Mamre, and why is he important? Second Aliyah: (18:15) Who told Sarah that indeed, she had laughed – Hashem or Avraham? Third Aliyah: (19:16) What made Lot hesitate? Fourth Aliyah: (19:28) Why is it relevant that Avraham was witness to the destruction of Sodom? Fifth Aliyah: (21:8) Why did Avraham make a festive meal on the day Yitzchak was weaned? Why doesn’t anyone do that today? Sixth Aliyah: (21:28) Why did Avraham choose seven sheep as a symbol of a covenant between himself and Avimelech? Seventh Aliyah: (22:11) Hashem directly told Avraham to bring Yitzchak on the Akeidah, so why did an angel stop him, and not Hashem Himself? Sof Zman Krias Shema 10:19 AM for October 19‐ 25, 2013.
