Student Life - Where You Belong
Each September we hold a welcome back assembly. Student leaders take the stage to introduce students to our array of clubs and
sports activities. We offer many clubs, including arts, drama, poetry,
library, rainbow, recycling, music and fitness. Or join Greenpeace,
South Asian and Vietnamese Associations, power cheerleading,
math and outdoor adventure club. Our school is an active member of the community. Our student leaders and staff organize such
events as the Earth Day Community Clean-up event, the 30 Hour
Famine and other fundraising initiatives.
Students appreciate the many mentoring opportunities we offer, including orientation for new Grade 9 students, peer counselors, peer
tutors, mediators and teacher advisors. Our students are enthusiastic about their participation in ESP and Volunteer Now.
Students are invited to join or cheer on our sports teams, including
badminton, hockey, baseball, volleyball, rugby, skiing, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, golf, football, cricket and track and field.
Our music students produce a yearly music CD, and our school is equally proud of its traditional yearbook and its video yearbook. We have both a student newspaper and a literary magazine. No day at
York Memorial is complete without “Radio Memo.” Each year our students and staff plan international
trips. Our students traveled to New York this past year. Next year we will visit Italy. We offer something
to everyone.

Student Testimonials
“I am in my first year of chemical engineering at the University of Waterloo. I could never have imagined how much the AP
physics, chemistry, and calculus classes I took in high school would help me in my first year of university. What I learned in
AP greatly made my first year of university immensely easier to handle.”
Adrienne Nelson, Chemical Engineering, University of Waterloo
“I’m really glad that I took the AP chemistry, AP calculus and AP physics courses at York Memorial. It’s making my life so
much easier. Instead of struggling with the new material, I’m just reviewing concepts that I’ve already learned and feel
comfortable with.”
Natalie DiTomasso, B.Sc, U of T
“I would like to thank York Memorial for the wonderful five years it educated me, inspired me, frustrated me and challenged
me. York Memorial shaped me into an ambitious student and driven young adult and for that, I am forever indebted to its
brown-bricked walls.”
Margaret Olszewski, Yale University
“I found my first year at Waterloo easy because of my participation in MCS and the AP courses I took in calculus, chemistry
and physics.”
Bradley Ashfield, University of Waterloo, faculty of mathematics
