Date: 4/29/14
Overview: This lesson will allow my students to wrap up the end of the text and to gain a better
understanding of the final assessment and what I will be asking them to do.
Goal: Students will be able to discuss the text and their ideas revolving around the book. They will also
understand what I am asking of them to do for their final assignment.
Objectives:
After this lesson my students…
● will have finished the text and discussed it
● will be able to discuss the main ideas of the text
● will have an understanding of the final assessment
Standards Achieved:
● CC.1.2.9-10.A: Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course
of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an
objective summary of the text.
● CC.1.2.9-10.D: Determine an author’s particular point of view and analyze how rhetoric
advances the point of view.
● CC.1.3.9-10.C: Analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with
other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

● Have my students completed the text?
● Do my students have their own opinions about the text?
● How many personal letter shave my students read?
● How do my students feel about reading choice books on top of these additional text?

● How does our understanding of the world affect the way we read and view text outside
of that cultural perspective?
● How do we understand others at deeper levels?
● Why are traditions important?
● Is it possible to have empathy for others who have an experience outside of your own? Activities:

Hand out worksheet
Allow students to complete worksheet and write their questions
Begin discussion
a. Facilitate discussion throughout
After conversation ends hand out final assessment worksheets
a. Make sure there are at least 15 minutes for the rest of the activities in this lesson
Ask students to read and annotate final assessment worksheets
Discuss expectations for the final assessment to the class
Instruct students to complete book selection surveys after doing some research themselves on
the text.
Collect packets / books
Remaining class time students will research books / complete surveys - First come first serve
