Hunter St Caribbean Festival
Rain Location: Market Hall Performance Centre, 140 Charlotte St., Peterborough
WELCOME to the
The 6th annual Caribbean Street
Festival started when Johanna
Sinclair from Dreams of Beans
Roasting House talked to a few
friends and neighbours on Hunter
Street about having a “street party” like she remembered from
growing up in Bermuda. With a small group of organizers, the
festival was born.
Ever since, the festival has grown steadily, involving more local
restaurants, businesses, non-profits and more sponsors who see
this event as a value to our community. People have had so much
fun coming out and enjoying Caribbean culture and we hope this
will continue to grow.
None of this would have been possible without the generous
support of our local sponsors, vendors, restaurants and volunteers.
Thank you!
We hope you enjoy today’s fun and exciting
sights and sounds of the Caribbean with us!
The 2015 Festival Committee: Kerri, Johanna, Rob, Marisa, Heather, Candicia,
Simone, Peter, and Rebecca.

PERFORMERS
ATELIER LUDMILA & THE DANCING DRAGON
Atelier Ludmila is a performance based production house and research lab invested in making art big with the public. Atelier Ludmila may be a familiar name
for many Peterborough residents from past projects like The AlleyWaltz – a series
of performances situated in parks, sidewalks, alleys, wastelands, empty buildings,
and other unsuspecting places, The Dream Machine – an ongoing initiative to
gather peoples sleeping dreams through performative solicitation towards creating an oral, written and visual global dream archive, and Puppets on Parade –
large scale puppet creation for public processions. We are excited to welcome
Atelier Ludmila to engage audience members of all ages!
DUB TRINITY
Dub Trinity is a high-spirited reggae-dub-ska-funky world beat band that brings
social consciousness to the dance floor. In 2011 they released Alexandria (and
other cautionary tales), a seven song EP which included a ‘pre-mix’ of the title
track by Juno award-winning Canadian reggae producer Jesse “Dubmatix” King.
The album was featured regularly on CBC Radio One and reached the top ten on
Canadian college radio charts across the country. They are about to release The
People Have The Power, their first full album. For the last three years they worked
on it with Peterborough music masters James McKenty and Aaron Cavan and
again enlisted Dubmatix, this time to master the rootsy, soulful vibe of the recording. Watch their Facebook page or website, dubtrinity.com, for the CD release date.
GREG ROY
The drummer for Dub Trinity, Greg loves to get people involved in music and
especially percussion. He leads drumming groups and teaches percussion and
he is instrumental in organizing the Harmony Festival and outdoor picnic at
Nichols Oval in East City every summer.
LACHY & THE CUBAN BEAT
Eliezer Lachy Najarro Baro began his musical journey in Cuba at the age of 9,
when a music teacher came to his school looking to recruit students. This was the
first time he had ever seen a saxophone, and it was love at first sight. Lachy was
one of only 8 students to gain a spot at the music school, where he studied Saxophone. He continued with music at university, in Santa Clara, Cuba, and then
pursued a career taking him round Cuba, Canada and France. He arrived in Canada to join his wife and son 2 1/2 years ago. His Canadian life began on PEI where
is musical career continued to flourish. Lachy and his family moved to Peterborough last summer. Lachy is joined tonight by: Chelsea Bennett (vocals), John
Lang (keys), Richard Simpkins (Bass) and Marcus Browne (Percussion).
MAYELIN LOVET & AMARILIS RIVERO GARCIA
Mayelin is originally from Cuba and now calls Peterborough her home. She
holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Dance & Folklore. Locally she teaches
Ballroom, Latin and Afro-Cuban dance for singles, couples and groups. Amarilis was also born in Cuba. She is a professional dancer and Zumba fitness instructor and currently lives in Lindsay. Both dancers are keen to have audience participation, so don’t be shy, take a chance to learn the steps and get up
and dance!
PYROFLYS
The PyroFlys are a fire performing circus troupe based in Peterborough, featuring fire eating, poi fleshing, fire hoops and much more. Putting on exciting
shows both locally and internationally, this group knows how to bring the
heat! We’re delighted to have The PyroFlys with us again this year; it’s a magical experience you won’t forget! www.pyroflys.com
THE HUMAN RIGHTS
Officially formed in Toronto in 2008, The Human Rights have earned a reputation for being one of Canada’s best Reggae bands, with “tight” being the word
used to describe their sound and performances. Specializing in original, high
energy, modern roots Reggae, the band features Friendlyness (Culture Shock,
Big Sugar) and Tréson on lead vocals, a blazing 3 piece horn section, 2 stellar
guitar players, a solid drum and bass duo and legendary Reggae keyboardist
Bernie Pitters (Toots and the Maytals, Hit Squad, Leroy Brown, Sly & Robbie).
Since the release of their debut CD ‘One Thing’ in 2010, The Human Rights
have been busy touring, performing and releasing the singles and videos
‘Right Now’, ‘Take A Stance’, ‘The Trailer Park Boys Theme Song’ (which is featured in the movie ‘TPB3 Don’t Legalize It’), and ‘Old School Track’ which spent
a record number of 44 weeks on the listener-voted Rebel Vibez Radio Program’s Top Ten Chart! Now in 2015, they have started to release new songs
from their upcoming full length
album which was recorded at
Phase One studio in Toronto and
produced by Gordie Johnson of
Big Sugar. Look out for the singles
and videos ‘Lionheart’. ‘Moments’
and ‘Natty Rebel’.
