The Musical: The Tale of Kieu Musical
is a theatrical adaptation from the Vietnamese Epic
Poem “The Tale of Kieu” written by Nguyen Du (1766-1820). The Musical will take place
August 17 & 18, 2013 at Houston’s Miller Outdoor Theatre. The original poem is widely
recognized worldwide and is regarded as the most significant work within Vietnamese
literature. The Tale of Kieu Musical has been created to pay tribute to Houston’s
Vietnamese Community and its cultural heritage.
Celebration: Kieu Celebration serves as a kick off event for the bilingual musical production. City
of Houston officials, Vietnamese performing artists, corporate executives, nonprofit
community leaders and philanthropists will all be attending The Kieu Celebration.
Participants from Houston’s mainstream, Vietnamese and multi-cultural communities will
celebrate together our arts and cultural legacies. The Kieu Celebration evening will
include a silent auction, entertainment, dancing and scrumptious dinner !

Benefit: The Kieu Celebration will benefit World Performances Inc., a 501(C)3 nonprofit
organization dedicated to the creation, collaboration and implementation of diverse high quality multicultural theatrical productions, special events and educational programs. The Kieu Celebration mission
is to bridge the peoples and cultures of Houston and beyond, for the betterment of global peace and
prosperity. The Tale of Kieu Musical performers will experience professional acting and vocal
training by working with the musical’s Artistic Directors and other production team experts. Audience
members who attend The Tale of Kieu Musical will become entertained and enlightened about the
original Tale of Kieu epic poem through the “Broadway Style” musical adaptation. Part of the funds
raised through the Kieu celebration will be used to underwrite production costs which will enable Free
Tickets to the public for the The Tale of Kieu Musical at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Proceeds in
part will be donated to BPSOS—towards its Anti Trafficking program.
