Music Appreciation Syllabus, MUSL 1324 Instructor: Laurence Gibson Office: FAM 434, 747-5607 Email: lgibson@utep.edu Course Description: This class traces the development of music through history with emphasis on Western art music of the last three-hundred years, its composers and performers. Musical examples will be played and discussed. Live performances and recordings of live performances will be featured wherever possible. Objectives: To develop and improve listening skills and to become knowledgeable about and conversant with the body of classical art music that we hear around us and in concert. Earlier editions not acceptable Class Participation: This course requires the recognition of the elements of music and the resulting musical styles, forms, and genres. Careful listening to-class lectures and musical examples is necessary. Good attendance and punctuality will be required for success.
