Study Your Way
written by the BA Business & Management part-time group, 2014 (pictured)
At Hull College, the majority of our programmes are available to
study on a part-time basis and indeed many of our students choose
to study around their existing commitments including full time jobs
and families. Here’s what some of our students had to say.
16
I can’t recommend this course
enough; to get my degree in

wish I’d done it sooner. It isn’t always
easy, but with support from the college
and class you just get through it! Also
three years seems like a huge
commitment but the time has
disappeared so quickly.
I work in the area so coming to
College was a ten minute drive
after work. Another reason it
appealed to me was the ability to work
and develop my career whilst I studied,
not to mention getting paid whilst I do
it. The ‘open door’ policy from the tutors
made it easy for additional support when
needed and the e-resources and library are
incredibly helpful.

Studying part-time has meant I
have worked alongside all age
groups with different careers and
aspirations also helping me prepare for
my future. You will gain experience whilst
studying which in my opinion makes you
stand out above the crowd! Also doing
it this way means I can apply any theory
I learn in the classroom to the workplace
increasing my understanding. I also won’t
end up in debt! I now have a new job
which I wouldn’t have been prepared for
had I not attended this course.

Tuition fees for new entrants in the 2015 academic year have been
set at just £6,000 per year for new full-time undergraduates, which is
substantially lower than other higher education institutions (please contact
us for part-time fee information). We believe in making our provision as
accessible and cost effective as possible so have worked hard to keep
our fees in line with the base levels proposed by the Government. This
means you get value for money as well as an outstanding education
experience and you could graduate with much less debt.

BA (Hons) Visual Culture: Theory & Practice
This degree is aimed at students who wish to work
in the creative industries as writers, journalists,
curators, educators and administrators. To prepare
for this, students will study academic modules in
the history and theory of art and design alongside
issue based courses focusing on visual culture.
From the second year there will be vocational/
professional modules to introduce potential areas
and contexts for employment. This course draws
on a range of academic disciplines and is situated
in an art school setting. This creates exciting
opportunities for collaboration and sharing of
practice within a wider community of creative and
intellectual endeavour.
Opportunities
This programme is taught through lectures,
seminars, tutorials and workshops with an
emphasis on debate and the sharing of opinions
and experience. Students will develop skills in
critical analysis, research and communication,

The relationships between place, community
and culture will be examined and in the run up to
City of Culture 2017 this will involve studying and
participating in cultural developments in Hull. Local
and regional issues and identities will then form a
starting point for the investigation of national and
international perspectives.
In addition links have been made with MA
programmes at other universities. Students
may progress to employment in museums
and galleries, education and community arts,
journalism and arts administration/ project
management. Preparation for employment;
