TORONTO ILLUSTRATOR CREATES QUIRKY CELEBRATION OF DAD'S LIFE
Illustrator keeps memory of dad alive with quirky picture book about his real life adventures.

Toronto's newest publishing house, Ponies + Horses Books, has published the first work by acclaimed
Toronto illustrator-designer, Tracy Craig, picture book The Mostly True Adventures of Jim Craig:
Sailboats, Dragons & Giraffes.
Part fantastical adventure, part quirky travel yarn, part true life tale, the book tells the story of Jim
Craig as he sails across the Atlantic from England to Trinidad and Tobago, battling storms, sharks and
ninja starfish as he goes. Turned into a beautifully illustrated story of polka-dotted dragons, talking
onions and tap-dancing sharks by his daughter Tracy Craig, the book is both a heartwarming read and an
uplifting celebration of the life of Jim Craig, who died earlier this year.
Jim Craig was one of life's characters. Tracy says that during his years in Trinidad, "He had cannons,
plural, that he fired regularly. He made a ceiling fan out of helicopter blades. He was a magnificently
wacky and entertaining human and he really did sail solo across the Atlantic, that's true, although I added
the swimming giraffes and the ninja starfish."
Aimed at kids from age 3 to 8 (but sure to be appreciated by readers of all ages), Sailboats, Dragons &
Giraffes is the first book from Toronto publishing house Ponies + Horses Books and the first in a series of
quirky picture books about the feisty Jim, crammed with character, whipped cream pie clouds and busy
business elks.

ABOUT TRACY CRAIG
Tracy Craig was born and grew up in Port of Spain, Trinidad. She moved to Toronto in 2004 and lives in
the east end of the city with her partner, Claudine, tiny dog and one-eyed cat. This is her first book.
