Root Words Summer Assignment: Card Game Design Competition We have Yu-­‐Gi-­‐Oh masters in our midst! Gamers, this challenge is especially for you. Task: Use these vocabulary root word flash cards in order to come up with a FUN card game that ALSO helps people learn all the information on the cards and then play your game with others until you have vocabulary mastery. What You Must Do: Step 1: Design a fun and creative card game that also helps us remember the information on the cards. Try out lots of different kinds of games. Think outside the box. Get the best game that you can. Step 2: Type up the rules for your game & send to reading@harvestcollegiate.org Step 3: Find a group of people (family, friends, neighbors, etc.) and play the game OVER AND OVER AND OVER until you have mastered the information on the cards. If a game gets boring, make up a new one. Step 4: Return to Harvest in September and show others how to play your game. You will have to explain to us the rules and play several rounds with us. The Competition: Judges will choose the winning games in the fall. Satisfaction, bragging rights, and FABULOUS PRIZES for winning advisories: Judging Criteria: Evidence: How well the game teaches us the information on the root word cards Voice: How well you explain the rules of the game and how to play Connection: How FUN is the game; how does it enrich our community Creative Contribution: Overall Game Design including creativity. There will also be a PRIZE for the people who demonstrate the most knowledge of the information on the vocabulary flash cards! Even if games aren’t your thing, study these cards rigorously and you could win big!
