COURSE  DESCRIPTION  

A  seminar  course  on  the  more  contemporary  and  controversial  doctrinal,  moral,  and  liturgical  issues   facing  the  Catholic  Church  today,  including  historical  Jesus  studies,  issues  in  sexual  ethics,  liturgical  

  adaptation,  and  many  other  questions  confronting  Church  life  and  mission  today.  

 

 

This   particular   course   familiarizes   the   students   with   feminist   theologies   and   facilitates   feminist   theological  reflection  through  an  introduction  to  key  concepts,  methods  and  women’s  perspectives   on  Scripture,  Tradition  and  contemporary  experiences  in  the  Church,  in  society  and  in  relation  to  the   earth.

LEARNING  OUTCOMES  

This  course  is  geared  towards  enabling  to  students  to:  

1.

Recognize  biases  within,  as  well  as  explain  and  differentiate,  key  concepts  pertaining  to  sex,   gender  and  feminism  

2.

Identify  some  key  feminist  theologians  and  derive  from  their  works  a  general  description  of   feminist  theologies  

3.

Analyze,  critique  and  re-­‐construct  images  of  women  in  Scripture  and  Church  Tradition  

4.

Appraise  the  situation  and  roles  of  women  in  the  Church,  in  society  and  in  relation  to  the   earth/planet  

5.

Advocate  gender  equality  and  construct  their  own  feminist  theological  vision
