- Registration Procedures and Policy Reminders 2015 Fall semester registration starts on 7/20/2015. ☺ CURRENT STUDENTS: Attention! - Registration - Online registration starts on 7/20/2015 and ends 7/31/2015 at 11:59 pm - In-person registration (students in ESL classes only) starts on 7/21/2015 and ends 7/31/2015 at 5:30 pm. - You are required to attend the first class meeting for every course you are enrolled in. If you miss the first class meeting, the instructor can drop you from the course. - Late Registration starts on 8/1/2015 and ends 9/14/2015 at 11:59 pm. Late Fees will apply (see page 3). - Registration Payment Due Date: 8/8/2015 at 11:59 p.m. If you do not pay by the due date, your courses will be dropped. - Add/Drop Courses - Add/Drop begins on 9/8/2015. - Online Add/Drop ends on 9/14/2015. - In-person Add/Drop ends on 9/12/2015, Saturday at 4:30 pm. ☺ NEW STUDENTS: - Registration starts on 8/26/2015. - Report to NPU following the date on the checklist to clear your documentation and/or exam requirements. - You are required to attend the first class meeting for every course your are intending to, but not yet, enroll in. You must inform your instructor of your intention so that they can mark your attendance. - You must clear your financial balance before registering for the new semester. - Conduct online registration via the NPU Online Service Center (OSC) – accessible from the NPU website. Attention! - Each currently enrolled student is required to conduct a course evaluation online for each course taken regardless of whether you register for the new term or not. The Evaluation link is available in your Online Service Center (OSC) records on either (1) your OSC homepage, next to each of your courses listed, or (2) your “My Records/My Courses” section, or (3) in your “Registration” section. We truly appreciate your cooperation. Please note that the copy of the evaluations provided to the instructors do not include your name. Your name is removed and the instructor only receives the scores and comments. In addition, instructors do not have access to the evaluations until after they submit the final course grade for the entire class. - To register for the coming semester, you must select courses online via the OSC. The tab “Registration” is designed for this purpose - You must clear your financial balance before registering for the new semester. You may also pay the required tuition and fees while selecting courses online by providing your credit card information in the online registration system. - Online Registration: Please read the instructions carefully to conduct your online registration. You may check the processing status of your Registration course selections and print your registration form online. Pay attention when your course selections are denied (You will also receive a email notice.) If you are denied, you will need to resubmit your request with the correct course choices by the registration deadline. Registration Procedures 1. The class schedule is available on our website at http://www.npu.edu/Class%20Schedule.html (under the “Academics” tab). Find the courses offered which satisfy your graduation requirements. You have access to your study plan via the OSC. 2. Select courses online. If you are denied access to the online registration due to certain reasons, you need to clear the issues before conducting the online registration. a) The following items describes some of the possible issues. If you owe official transcript(s) or GMAT/GRE/SAT score, your program status can be changed to “non-degree” until you have submitted the documents or taken the test(s). For those who still need to take any assessment exam, you must take an oncampus assessment exam before registration. Some students are required to meet with a staff member for counseling before registration. You must also clear your financial balance. You must provide a local address to the school. Please submit it online via the OSC. These are “issues” that can deny you access to the online registration program. b) Follow the “prerequisite” requirements when taking a course. A graduate student must clear his/her undergraduate deficiencies before taking any graduate courses. An undergraduate student should clear most or all of the lower-division requirements before taking the upper-division major courses. c) When you pay your tuition and fees in the Office, a registration form with the tuition and fees information will be printed for you, and you should check the data. To avoid paying a late fee, payment must be made to NPU by 8/8/2015 (for current students). d) Secure your space in the courses you enroll in by paying the required tuition and fees by the 8/8/2015 deadline. 3. Official registration: Only after you have paid the required tuition and fees will you be considered having registered for the new term. 4. Student ID card: Pick up your validation sticker from the administration office. 5. Payment Plans: Check with the Fee Station staff for payment plans available to you if you have difficulty paying the entire amount of tuition and fees at once. A new international student does not have this option in the first semester at NPU. Any student using a payment plan is required to follow the payment schedule to pay. Otherwise the student will be withdrawn from his/her classes. MasterCard 6. Mandatory International Student Health Insurance: An international student must purchase the health insurance plan with the provider contracted by NPU. Any other valid US health insurance plan documents must be provided to designated administrators before your registration if you do not wish to purchase the NPU contracted plan. VISA Page 2 ** The 2015 Fall semester starts on 9/8/2015 and ends on 12/21/2015. Tuition and Fees ** Pay tuition upon selecting your courses to secure your space in the courses you want to take. (I.) TUITION: 1. Bachelor degree courses: $330/unit. 2. Graduate degree courses: $450/unit (for all graduate credit- engineering or business - and preparatory module courses) 3. Auditing fee (no credit): Half of the regular unit rate; not applicable to project/ESL/CPT/lab courses. 4. ESL classes (non-credit): $160/unit. (Notice: Tuition for repeating a course is the regular rate in each category. The last grade earned is the only grade recorded). (II.) FEES: 1. Registration fee $75 2. Campus Fee $125 3. Learning Resource fee $200 4. International students: Health insurance fee (covers from 9/1/2015 – 1/1/2016) $315 (Required for all international students). If you add/drop courses after registration: 5. Add/Drop fee: 1st: $10 2nd: $20 3rd: $50 4th: $100 (a maximum of four Add/Drop requests are allowed, but multiple courses may be added or dropped per request.) 6. Late Registration fee for current students takes effect on 8/1/15: $50 by 8/23/2015; $75 by 9/7/2015; $100 by 9/14/2015. Late registration fee for new students registering between 9/8/2015 and 9/12/2015: $20 Late registration fee for new students registering after 9/15/2015: $100 Online System for Your Convenience - to Make Requests or for Services The NPU Online Service Center is designed for you to make requests or for administrative services online and receive faster online replies. You also use this window to access the online learning resources. Log onto NPU’s website at www.npu.edu and select “Student Log-In” under the “Online Service Center Login” header in the lower-right section of the home page . You will then need to enter your user ID and password to enter the Center. Click the third tab “My Requests”. You’ll see several categories of services which you may submit online. You then further select the specific item/service you need in a category. You can check the processing status for each of your request on the Request History page. Check your Academic and Personal Records For current and new students who have registered with NPU: You may check your academic records and personal data online via the OSC. From there, you will be able to update your personal data via the “My Requests” function, access course information and related learning resources via the “My Records” section, and access NPU’s eLibrary and career information in the “e-Services” section. Please see an administrator if you have any questions. Online Bookstore for Purchasing Textbooks You can find textbook information and buy or rent the books from NPU’s website. The 2015 Fall semester textbook list will be posted on the NPU Online Bookstore shortly after the registration deadline. Go to www.npu.edu and click “Online Bookstore” under the “Campus” tab. Then by clicking the link for the 2015 Fall semester you will see the textbook list for the spring semester classes and entries for either buying or renting the books. Amazon.com provides both new and used books. Have your textbooks ready for your first class meetings. We have requested the instructors not to make any changes once the books are posted online. Please see an administrator if you have any questions. Page 3 Policy Reminders 1. Courses are offered based on the course descriptions specified in the 2015 Catalog. You still need to follow your existing study plan to complete your study. Some students may need to request a substitute of an old course by submitting a request online before 7/13/15. 2. Request for Substitution of Course Requirement will NOT be processed during the registration week nor the first week of the new semester. You must submit such requests before registration. 3. To secure your seats in the courses you want to take, you must pay the tuition and fees by at appropriate due dates or the course will be automatically dropped. 4. Add/Drop courses: A student is allowed to submit an Add/Drop request a maximum of four (4) times (multiple courses may be added or dropped per request) unless an additional Add/Drop is required due to cancellation of classes made by the administration. The fees associated with the request are as follows: 1st: $10 2nd: $20 3rd: $50 4th: $100. 5. A non-degree student is required to meet the prerequisite requirements when taking courses at NPU. In the event that the student later decides to apply for a degree study at NPU, he/she must go through the regular degree program application procedures; no more than 12 units earned at NPU under non-degree status may be applied to the degree requirements. A student can be placed in non-degree status if he/she still owes official transcripts (from previous colleges) or other unsatisfied admission requirements, or fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress. 6. Graduation Petition: A student should petition for graduation via the NPU Online Service Center in the Student Requests function. This request should be made before his/her last registration with NPU. For example, a student graduating in the 2015 Fall semester should submit the request by 6/29/2015. Late submission of the request will incur a late fee. The petition deadlines are specified in the academic calendar on the NPU website. 7. Each international student is required to maintain the following in order to keep his/her F1 status: (a) full-time enrollment records, (b) satisfactory progress (CGPA requirement), (c) good class attendance records, and (d) good status with the university – with clean financial records and good conduct. Online Courses Students wishing to take an online course at NPU must meet the following requirements before they can register in an online course (subjects in MBA program area): 1. English writing proficiency is required for taking any online courses. 2. A student must complete the following in order to enroll in any online course: (a) Complete an online orientation workshop including a self-assessment survey and (b) Take and pass an online exam. This can be done via the Online Service Center (OSC) and in the “Registration” function. By clicking the link for “Check My Registration Locks” in the lower-right corner of the page, you will enter the page for conducting the survey as well as taking the exam. 3. Once enrolled in an online course, the student must read the Online Course Handbook and understand the detailed requirements for taking the online course. Page 4
