The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth is a Texas nonprofit corporation
qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Proceeds from the event
will support the Society’s educational, cultural, business, and public affairs programs.
American Airlines, Inc.
American Airlines, Inc., headquartered in Fort Worth, has
been bridging the gap between the United States and Japan
for 24 years. The airline started its Japan operations in 1987
with six flights per week between Dallas/Fort Worth and
Narita International Airports. Today, American operates
six daily or 42 weekly flights between the two countries
from its cornerstone markets of New York, Chicago,
Dallas/Fort Worth, and Los Angeles. Fourteen flights per
week connect D/FW and Tokyo - the most service to Tokyo
by any U.S. airline from any city in the continental U.S.
American Airlines’ partnership with Japan Airlines,
a model of international business cooperation,
has been growing for more than 15 years.
It began with a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement in 1995
and expanded to include codesharing in 1999, allowing
both airlines to more easily market the other's flights.
American sponsored JAL's membership in the oneworld
Alliance in 2007, and was a primary reason for JAL's 2010
renewed commitment. American and JAL plan to
implement their trans-Pacific joint business this spring,
which will result in enhanced economic and consumer
benefits in both countries under Open Skies.
American has provided outstanding leadership and
support to the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort
Worth, and the airline's impact on cultural exchange is
immeasurable. American Airlines is “an economic engine
that powers the movement of people, the flow of products,
and the exchange of ideas across continents and
around the world.”
The Honorable John M. Stich
Honorary Consul General of Japan at Dallas
John M. Stich, Honorary Consul General of Japan at Dallas,
has made an indelible imprint on the international scene in
the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Appointed by the
Government of Japan in 2004, Mr. Stich has been an
energetic leader and spokesperson for the importance of
U.S.-Japan relations, serving as Vice Dean of the Consular
Corps in 2007-2008. Through his efforts, Japanese
Ambassadors Ichiro Fujisaki and Ryozo Kato paid multiple
visits to the Metroplex.
Along with his wife Christiana, Mr. Stich has been
a leading force in the growth of the Japan-America Society
of Dallas/Fort Worth for 11 years, serving as president in
2001-2002. He also is a member of SMU's Asian Studies
Advisory Council, the Dallas-Taipei Sister City Committee,
and the Dallas-Sendai Friendship City Committee.
John Stich launched his business career in 1964
when he joined Texas Instruments. For 24 years, he led TI's
Asian business growth while living in Taipei, Hong Kong,
and Tokyo. He was the Chief Marketing Officer for TI in
Japan and Vice President-Semiconductors for TI-Asia.
From 2000 to 2006, Mr. Stich was the President and Chief
Executive Officer of The Asian Network, a consulting
business for high-technology companies doing business in
Asia. Mr. Stich currently is a member of the Board of
Directors at Diodes, Inc.
