Project name: (NRCWD) National Resources Center for Women Development Shantidhara Background • NGO formed in September 1994. • Based in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. • A residential facility for kids from rural areas – helping them go to schools which were otherwise too far from their villages. • Previous collaboration with Sankalp: Funded parts of hostel repair Cyclone of 2014 • Cyclone Hudhud hit India in October , 2014, devastating the city of Vishakapatnam. • Relief efforts of the government were focused primarily on urban areas. • Rural Visakhapatnam is still far from recovery. Current state of affected villages • Fruits from trees were a source of income during non-harvest seasons. • This came to a dead end after the cyclone hit the villages • Current project: Relief for the villages of Kavikondla, Agraharam, Santhapalem and Chandrayyapeta via the supply of saplings Proposal • 8 saplings (3 mango, 3 tamarind, 2 coconut) per family distributed for a total of 782 families over two to three days. • Ordered from a nursery two months prior to the time of planting them. • Volunteers help planting saplings. • Planted in June 2015 before Monsoon starts.
