This retract fits any tangentially fired furnace. The device consists of a pneumatic cylinder, mounted externally on the windbox and a bearing assembly for the oil gun guide pipe reciprocal motion. The cylinder is actuated by compressed air introduced through a 4-way solenoid valve. The solenoid and switches are shop-wired to a common terminal box mounted on the retract mechanism. A signal from the burner controls actuates the solenoid to introduce compressed air to the cylinder, which moves the gun forward and keeps it in firing position by continuous application of compressed air. After the firing is terminated and the scavenging cycle is completed, the gun is retracted to prevent damage to the spray nozzle due to overheating. For interlocks, limit switches relay to the controls both the end position of the gun and information on whether the removable gun is properly clamped to the stationary union. Features: • Allows for simple adjustment of oil gun tip position • Requires no cooling air • Remote control actuation and retraction BENEFITS: • Reliable operation • Reduces maintenance RELIABLE OPERATION AND REDUCED MAINTENANCE APPLICATIONS: • Tangentially fired units OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS 7 Oil and Gas Firing Products Oil Gun Spray Tips ALSTOM OIL GUN SPRAY TIPS PROVIDE AT LEAST TWICE THE WEAR RESISTANCE OF M42 TOOL STEEL. | It can be said that the most important aspect of firing oil is using the correct spray tips. At Alstom, you’ll get just that - spray tips that are specifically engineered for your fuel type, flow rate, operating pressures, and turndown requirements. We use a special material that has a more homogeneous and finer grain structure than traditional tool steels. It is heat-treated and maintains its hardness at elevated temperature. Our material provides at least twice the wear resistance of M42 tool steel. Other materials can also be provided for service with corrosive chemicals or other extreme conditions. Mechanical Spray Tips Alstom’s mechanical spray tips are for use on systems that rely on the actual pressure of the oil itself to accomplish the atomization. Straight Mechanical Tips • For single pipe oil guns •Do not require a pressure regulating oil gun fuel return system Wide Range Mechanical Tips •For parallel pipe or concentric style oil guns •Require a pressure regulating oil gun fuel return system •Inlet pressure remains high during turndown • Large turndown range Steam / Air Atomizing Spray Tips These spray tips are for use on systems that use steam or air as the oil-atomizing medium. 8 OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS Internal Mix Tips •For parallel pipe or concentric style oil guns •Improves atomization for problem fuels •Accommodates a wide range of steam quality Oil and Gas Firing Products Oil Gun Spray Tips (continued) External Mix Tips •For parallel pipe or concentric style oil guns • Reduces steam / air consumption •No pressure differential regulator required •No tip resizing required when changing atomization medium or fuel IMPROVED WEAR LIFE OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE Oil Gun Spray Tip Application Chart Please Note: The above chart is for reference purposes only. OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS 9 Oil and Gas Firing Products Three-piece Nozzle Body Assemblies ALSTOM’S THREE-PIECE NOZZLE BODY IS DESIGNED TO MAKE MAINTENANCE EASY | by incorporating a nozzle that is welded on one end to the oil supply pipe and threaded on the other end for connection to the nozzle body. The nozzle body is threaded internally on one end to connect to the nozzle and threaded externally on the other end to connect to the oil gun spray tip retaining nut. These features eliminate the need to cut the entire assembly off at the oil supply pipelines making maintenance easy. Features: • Easy maintenance • Replacement without cutting or rewelding • Welded to oil supply line • Threaded to the nozzle body BENEFITS: • Reduced maintenance costs • Improved reliability APPLICATIONS: • Utility, industrial, pulp and paper boilers EASY MAINTENANCE 10 OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS Oil and Gas Firing Products Two-piece Stationary Union ALSTOM’S TWO-PIECE STATIONARY UNION MINIMIZES LEAKS. | The twopiece stationary union was developed to minimize leaks by allowing for a minor guide tube misalignment relative to the union body ensuring a square fit-up with the oil gun removable union. This innovative two-piece design separates the guide tube connection from the union body where the hoses are located. This allows the guide tube to be removed for maintenance or replacement without the inconvenience of disconnecting the fuel supply and atomization hoses. Cottered through pins replace troublesome shoulder bolts to fasten the yoke to the union body and guide tube connection. Features: • Minimizes leaks • No disconnecting oil and steam lines for guide tube removal • No shoulder bolts BENEFITS: • Improved availability • Easy maintenance • Convenience APPLICATIONS: MINIMIZES LEAKS AND HAS EASY MAINTENANCE • Utility, industrial, pulp and paper boilers OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS 11 Oil and Gas Firing Products Flex Hoses ALSTOM FLEX HOSES ARE QUALITY ENGINEERED AND PROVIDE FLEXIBILITY TO THE OIL GUN DESIGN | Flexible hoses replace standard straight pipe in parallel pipe oil guns when the oil gun is used in tilting tangential windbox applications. The flex hose provides a path for the oil and air / steam flow to follow and allows for expansion when in use. Fabricated from stainless steel, flex hoses are sturdy, quality engineered components that ensure availability of the oil gun when needed. Flex hoses are supplied with restricting straps. These are essential in preventing the flex hoses from over bending or bowing which can occur during operation due to the weight of the assembly. Features: • Stainless steel construction • Restricting straps supplied to ensure stability during operation • Pressure tested BENEFITS: • Ensures reliable operation of oil gun when needed APPLICATIONS: • Tilting tangential windbox applications 12 OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS QUALITY ENGINEERED STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION PRESSURE TESTED Oil and Gas Firing Products Diffuser Vanes OIL GUN DIFFUSER VANES PROVIDE OIL FLAME STABILIZATION. | They are a high quality design constructed from stainless steel to ensure durability in the high heat zones of the furnace. Flame scanner guide pipe Features: • Stainless steel construction • HEI spark rod is easily incorporated to directly light oil • Flame scanner guide pipe is easily incorporated to provide optical proof of flame • Configuration per engineering standards (number of angles, veins and sizes) BENEFITS: • Provides optimum oil flame stabilization • Durable and reliable APPLICATIONS: • Utility, industrial, pulp and paper boilers PROVIDES OIL FLAME STABILIZATION STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS 13 Oil and Gas Firing Products Nozzle Tips ALSTOM HAS CAREFULLY RESEARCHED GAS AND OIL NOZZLE TIP DESIGN AND DEVELOPED OPTIONS TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS WITH THIS CRITICAL, FUELDELIVERY COMPONENT. | The nozzle tip is the last wear component in the fuel delivery system, and is the mechanism that funnels the gas and or oil/air mix into the furnace. Secondary air passing around the perimeter of the nozzle tip is typically between 400°F and 750°F. This, in conjunction with the ambient fuel, cools the nozzle tip. Gas and or oil exiting from a conventional nozzle tip ignites approximately three to five feet away from the tip. Thus, the operating temperature of a conventional nozzle tip is typically between 600°F and 700°F. A typical gas and or oil tip will warp, rupture, or both due to the following factors: • Oxidation • Sulfidation • Ignition point on the tip The reliability and integrity of gas and or oil nozzle tips are critical to safe and stable boiler operation. Oil tip with diffuser Because of its proximity to the fireball, gas and oil nozzle tips must perform under extreme conditions, and are susceptible to severe damage. For this reason, gas and oil nozzle tips must be properly inspected and maintained at regular intervals. Under such harsh operating conditions, these nozzle tips should be replaced every two to six years. In a tangential, gas and or oil-fired steam generator, a vertical line of nozzle tips is located in each corner in the furnace. Each nozzle tip directs the flow of gas and or oil mixed with hot air. During normal operation, furnace gas temperature can exceed 2500°F. 14 OIL AND GAS FIRING PRODUCTS Gas nozzle tip Oil and Gas Firing Products Nozzle Tips (continued) Alstom manufactures nozzle tips from a variety of cast and fabricated materials.
