K Y LE ANTHONY – STAFF 2010
H EAD C OUNSELOR
B ARRY V ILLE, NY
Camp Lincoln, simply put, is an
awesome experience. Camp’s magical
atmosphere makes campers encourage
each other, push each other to do
better every day, and most
importantly, to have fun! Although
Camp challenges campers daily, the
rewards of overcoming those challenges are worth the
investment. Campers gain self-confidence in their abilities with
each milestone they surpass. Moreover, campers develop really
strong bonds of friendship with their cabin mates that last a
lifetime. Not only does Camp teach campers how to win
humbly, but it also teaches campers how to accept defeat
without spite. In watching the campers develop and grow, I
realized how much of a difference a positive atmosphere affects
campers. They change noticeably over a short period, and it’s
great to watch. Leaving Camp becomes extremely difficult
because you have invested so much time and energy into it that
the minute you return home, you miss everything about it.
Summer 2010: our 101st Season, the start of a new century in camping. Thank you for
joining us! Our campers came from 41 states and 10 international countries, and did
you know that our staff came from 30 states and 15 international countries? When we
talk about our core value of building community, one of the benefits is to do so with
campers and staff from around the world. We also hope that you made many quality
relationships while at camp and that you are keeping in touch with some of your
friends through the year. Remember, you can always send a letter to a camp friend via
the camp address, and we will forward it on. As you read through this Fall Railsplitter,
we hope that it will rekindle some of the fun times that you had at camp and that it will
provide an opportunity to again reflect on the personal growth and development that
you experienced in the process. As we head into this new century, we believe that our
mission and its focus on values will be the best guide for assuring quality and
excellence in camping for the generations to come.
We think you will enjoy reading about some of the plans for next summer, and we
hope that you will be joining us. Is your name on the roster yet? We hope so. Did you
notice that for 2011 we are introducing a new 5-day Intro
Camp for K-3rd Graders and a new Three Week
option? Check it out, and if you know
someone who might be interested, keep us
DON’T MISS
posted, so that we can send them some
more information.

2011 new offerings
Three weeks returns to Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake
Hubert! This session, starting in late June, is designed for
those campers that want more than the two week sessions, but are
not quite ready, or do not have the time, for the four week session. Three
week campers can participate in the full range of activities, special days,
and adventure trips offered, just like the four week campers, only limited
by the shorter length of time. This session is open to 2nd to 8th grade boys,
and 4th to 7th grade girls.

3 W EEK CAMP
Parents and campers alike have been asking for a camp
session for their younger children/siblings, or for those a bit
hesitant to commit to a two week session. We have heard you!
Starting in 2011, Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert will be offering
an Introductory Camp Experience for Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
Campers. This 4 night/5 day session, called Intro Camp, allows the
younger or more hesitant camper to experience the best camp has to
offer in a much shorter time frame. Campers will go to activities by age
group and eat together by cabin while also experiencing a taste of some
of our long-standing camp traditions.

Hello Golfers! 2011 will be the 20th Anniversary for our Golf Camps,
and next summer we are excited to offer two Golf Camps, one in June
and one in August. These are concentrated golf camps for all skill levels,
with the mornings spent on Grand View Lodge’s excellent teaching
facility which includes a large full-swing area, chipping green, practice
bunker and huge putting area, plus video swing analysis. In the
afternoon, campers and coaches head to one of three challenging courses
to practice the skills learned. Ryder Cup here you come! Golf and camp
fun – hard to beat! Check out our website.
GOLF CAMP
It was another successful year at the Lake Hubert Tennis Camps. We
were blessed with perfect tennis weather and an amazing group of
campers and staff who were all integral members of the memorable two
weeks. A healthy mix of beginning through advanced tennis players
allowed for the tennis staff to offer diverse lesson plans that were
specifically designed for each skill group. Beyond working on tennis,
campers were also given the opportunity to experience more traditional
camp activities such as horseback riding, riflery, archery, and the Bog
among others. Overall it was a great 2 weeks at Tennis Camp!
TENNIS CAMP
This year’s Family Camp was a terrific
mixture of new and returning families. Days
were filled with fun camp activities and at
night special events like Campfires, Bingo, a
County Fair, BBQ and Skit Night as well as
the traditional “mellow time” which ends
each day, kept families entertained in the
evenings.
FAMILY CAM P
Singing traditional camp songs
at campfires is great.
No better way to spend your
camp days than with the wind
in your sails.
Campers learning how to tie a
figure 8 knot at the Climbing Wall.
Lake Hubert is a great lake
for Fishing.
The Water Mat is a great place to
hang out on a warm summer day.
Tennis Camp II 2010
Great pottery projects were sculpted, the
sunrise paintings were as beautiful as ever
and the early Polar Bear Plunge was very
well attended each morning. Of course, no
Family Camp would be complete without the
ever-popular Snow Tumbler Museum and the
daily coin hunt for “Looney’s.”
All of this, along with new skills and a deeper
appreciation and connection for each family
made 2010 a banner year for our Family
Camp Program. We hope you will encourage
your family to join us for our 2011 Family
Camp!

Because of camp,
I was directed
down the road of
achievements that I
am on now. I was given
positive feedback for everything
I did. The people at camp are some of
the most important people in my life. I cherish those
friendships more than anything. Because of camp, I
am more positive and genuinely happier. I have
become friends with campers and staff alike from not
only around the country, but around the entire world.
I have realized that holding onto things that do not
make you happy just is not worth it. There is not
enough time in your life for negativity. I know there
is a place in this world where you will be loved and
accepted for all your talents as well as your
imperfections. I had a smile on my face for an entire
summer. Never did I think I could get so much
out of one place, but all the forward progress that
took place this summer, was without a doubt,
because of camp.

Congratulations and THANKS to the 24 young men
that successfully completed Lincoln’s Level 1 and
Level 2 Leadership Training Programs this past
summer. Although your LT Group was one of our
largest in Camp’s 101 year history, you each managed
to individually impact the success of our summer. Led
by Patrick Dodd, Ferris Meuli, Brad Stewart and André
Brewer, you became positive examples for campers
and staff alike, which was not always easy to do given
your numerous responsibilities and requirements. We
appreciated your enthusiasm and your determination
to work hard to give back to the place that had done so
much for you over the years. Each of you made a
major difference in the lives of the campers and staff
this summer and are hopefully utilizing the leadership
skills you gained this summer as a LT in your home
communities. THANK YOU and best of luck in all
future endeavors!
