Funding Alert 3 Prepared by Cultural & Community Services September 2015 CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE & FAMILIES Buttle UK Buttle, a UK charity that helps vulnerable young children, has announced that its grant making programmes are currently open for applications. Funding is available through the Small Grants programme; the School Fees programme; and the support for Young People programme. The Small grants programme provides funding for essential items to children and young people whose health, safety and well-being are at risk. The School Fees programme provides support to transforms the lives of vulnerable children (aged 11 and over) by funding places at schools with a safe and supportive environment. The Support for Young People programme provides tailored fundingpackages of up to £2,000 available for young people aged 16-20. Applications may be submitted at any time http://www.buttleuk.org/index.php Starbucks Youth Action Grants Grants of up to £1,000 are available to inspire and empower young people to make a difference in their communities. Young people in England, Scotland and Wales aged between 16 and 24 years who are not in education or employment are eligible to apply. Two young people need to lead the project and engage a further 50 young people throughout the course of the project. The young people will need to have a youth worker/training organisation able to support them throughout the project. The programme is primarily focused on young people not in education or employment but strong applications from other applicants will be considered. Funding is available for projects that provide a positive benefit to the local community and that look to enhance the young leaders’ employability and leadership skills. For 2015/16, applications will be considered monthly between July 2015 and March 2016. TTS.Digital is a funding programme designed to inspire digital creativity in young people. It will support a series of projects led by young people and working with a collaboration of arts organisations with technology partners. TTS.Digital is part of Time to Shine - Scotland's National Youth Arts Strategy. TTS.Digital has been delivered in two phases. • Phase One supported 10 pilot projects in early 2015. • Phase Two supports larger scale projects. TTS.Digital is now inviting applications for Phase Two, with an open call for larger-scale projects which build on the outcomes of the Phase One pilot projects. The total budget for TTS.Digital Phase Two is £400,000. Because of the scale of the projects that they are looking to support, they expect applications to be made for between £50,000 and £100,000, and they are looking to support between 6-8 projects. Applications are open to partnerships of arts organisations and technology organisations - both of which must be based in Scotland. Minority communities, particularly where people are affected by poverty, a lack of education, malnutrition and disease. The Fund is divided into two categories: • Central Fund - The Central Fund annually supports two large, community-based, environmental or educational projects to the value of £25,000 each. These can be located anywhere in the world where a Scott Bader company is operating. • Small Fund - Small grants of £500 to £2,000 to support international projects located anywhere in the world. These projects enable organisations to offer structured study, work experience, job shadowing, training and teaching opportunities to staff and learners in another European country. There are three types of learning mobility activities for youth: youth exchanges; European Voluntary Service (EVS); and training/networking for youth workers. One or more activities can be combined into a mobility project, with a UK organisation or in some cases, an informal group of young people working in partnership with one or more organisations from the Erasmus+ participating countries. The programme is run by the British Council and they are running application support webinars, including one-to-one online sessions, for the 1st October deadline for youth mobility. Youth partnership projects can last between six months and three years, and organisations can apply for funding to support a combination of activities. Activities must contribute to overall project objectives, and create, develop, test and embed innovative approaches in youth work, including; • new methods, tools or materials to build young people’s key competences, basic skills or language and IT skills; • new methods, tools or materials to build capacity and professionalise or modernise youth work, including through • the use of ICT, virtual mobility or online learning, sharing of best practise, reform of youth work curricula, etc.; • new youth work approaches, including strategies to tackle social exclusion and early school leaving; • through cross-sector networking and activities, i.e. non-formal youth work with formal education and training sector • and relevant diverse partners in private and youth sector, to develop innovative approaches to youth work; • strategic collaboration with local or regional authorities. The aim of the Foundations grant making is to support projects that improve and develop local communities and promote financial literacy and financial inclusion. The types of projects supported include initiatives designed to encourage the involvement in the community of those too often excluded; working with people on low incomes, at risk from poverty or with problems finding accommodation; improving the standards of local facilities; promoting financial awareness and money advice; enhancing debt counselling services within the community; and Supporting life-skills in all age groups and sections of the community. Through the small grants making programme, grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available and through the medium grants making programme grants of between £10,001 and £25,000 are available. The key questions to be addressed are: • Does poverty cause stress, low level anxiety and depression? • Do stress, low level anxiety and depression cause poverty? Projects should run for 6 months on a budget of £30,000, including VAT and expenses. International development seeks to implement long-term solutions to problems by working with developing countries to create the capacity needed to provide such sustainable solutions, and it is hoped techniques can be learnt from these models to replicate in the UK. A £20,000 project budget, including VAT and expenses, is available for one project only for four months. Deadline: 22nd September 2015 http://www.jrf.org.uk/funding Paul Hamlyn Foundation - Ideas and Pioneers Fund The Ideas and Pioneers Fund supports people who have an idea with unusual promise to improve the life chances and opportunities of individuals and communities in the UK. They can provide funding totalling up to £30,000 over up to 18 months to help you get started, and introduce you to a group of peers for mutual support. They will consider funding work to enable you to develop the idea from concept to set-up, including problem definition and analysis, scoping, exploratory work, and prototyping. They understand that ideas are driven by the passion of the people who hold them, so this fund is open to individuals, teams working independently and small organisations. They are particularly interested in receiving applications from people who haven’t applied to PHF before. They expect to receive a large number of proposals for the Ideas and Pioneers Fund, and will award around 30 grants per year. There will be several funding rounds throughout 2015 and 2016. These are the first three funding rounds in 2015. The aim of the Fund is to help groups run an event or engagement activity with a group of five or more people to gather their thoughts on creating a Fairer Scotland. By 2030, Fairer Scotland aims to create a place where people are healthier, happier and treated with respect, and where opportunities, wealth and power are spread more equally. Discussions and engagement should include: What are the issues that matter most to people; what do people think needs to be done; how can people and their community play a role in helping to shape our future? Discussions and engagement ideally should take place before 16th October 2015. A brief report and evidence of what emerged from the event / engagement must be returned to the Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) no later than Friday 23rd October 2015. B&Q operates this Scheme through all of its stores within the UK. B&Q donates products and waste materials they haven't been able to sell for re-use such as slightly damaged tins of paint, off-cuts of timber, and odd rolls of wallpaper and end-of-range materials. Donated products should benefit the local community and the environment and cannot be resold. Due to its Health and Safety scheme, electrical, petrol and gas items are not available for donation. The Elephant Trust offers grants to artists and for new, innovative visual arts projects based in the UK. The Trust's aim is to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when confronted by lack of funds. The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. Priority is now being given to artists and small organisations and galleries who should submit well argued, imaginative proposals for making or producing new work or exhibitions. Arts Festivals are not supported. The Trust normally awards grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants may be considered. Priority will be given to projects working in areas of social and economic deprivation outside of London. Two types of grant are available to support work at different stages of development. The Access and participation ‘explore and test' grants provide funding for up to two years to help test new approaches or gather evidence for the first time about approaches that have been used before. Deadline: 15th September 2015 The Access and participation ‘more and better' grants provide longer, larger grants to help increase the impact and effectiveness of work which has already shown promise or positive impact. The Music Grants programme supports those areas of music performance and education which do not readily attract backing from commercial sponsors or other funding bodies, or which are not eligible for public funding. Priority will be given to those organisations which give opportunities to young professionals and to education projects for young people as well as for new adult audiences. This would include direct assistance as well as funding for organisations which promote their work or performance, and support for Master Classes. The funds can be used for projects that help museums to develop in line with the National Strategy and 25% match funding will be required. Successful applicants must complete their project and claim their grant within 12 months of award. The purpose of this fund is to support museums to work in partnership to run collaborative training courses and skills development programmes. These in turn strengthen knowledge sharing, partnership working and peer support within the museums sector. Grants up to £5,000 with a minimum of £1,000 are available. Applications for up to £10,000 may be considered, however these must demonstrate a larger strategic project with wider impact. The following are eligible to apply: • Formally constituted Scottish museum networks or forums with a bank account. • Informal Scottish museum forums or networks which are not constituted - these applications should be submitted by one of the partnership organisations that runs an accredited museum in Scotland. • Partnerships or collaborations - applications may be considered from non-museum organisations working in partnership with the museums sector for the benefit of accredited museums. These applications must be submitted in association with an accredited museum and the project must reflect a demonstrated sector need. In all instances it must be clear that that main benefit of the funding will be for accredited museums in Scotland. The Programming Development Fund will support programming initiatives of cultural significance, high profile and wide reach, encouraging curatorial ambition, achieving economies of scale and bringing films to audiences across the UK in a fresh and original way. The objectives of the Programming Development Fund are to: • Support and promote high-quality, distinctive, diverse film exhibition projects of scale and ambition. • Increase opportunities for more diverse audiences across the UK to engage with a wider range of specialised and independent British film, including those in areas with limited provision. • Enable film programmers to be more adventurous and experimental in their programming choices and to promote innovation and risk-taking in terms of content and/or delivery model. • Encourage greater sharing of programme content and initiatives across the UK. • Develop new ways to build stronger relationships between film venues and audiences. • Create links to other BFI strategic initiatives relating to education and learning, investment in skills and unlocking film heritage. Properly constituted organisations are eligible to apply. These include: limited liability companies; community interest companies; charities or trusts registered with the Charities Commission; universities principally regulated by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (If not registered with the Charity Commission); and local authorities or statutory bodies. Applicants and/or their partners should have direct experience of film exhibition and audience development activity within the UK, such as cinemas, cinema chains or consortia, film festivals or arts organisations with experience of film curation. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the clear public benefit of the proposed project, as well as wide geographic and audience reach and curatorial ambition, and present a clear and tangible opportunity to increase profile and attract audiences for specialised or independent British film. The Fund is looking to support activity which is delivered mainly as large screen communal audience experience(s) rather than as small screen (digital device) private content consumption. However, projects which contain some activity on other platforms such as online or mobile apps are welcome, especially if they make a demonstrable contribution to audience development and show innovative approaches to achieving the Fund objectives. The Fund is open to new ideas but will prioritise: • Programmes which are of such scale or innovation that they are likely to attract significant media attention and public notice. • Projects which utilise or compliment the resources and infrastructure of the Film Audience Network. • Programmes which link to other aspects of Film Forever especially if linked to the BFI's Unlocking Film • Heritage programme and/or the work of the BFI's 5-19 education partners, Into Film. • Programmes that are predominantly focused on specialised or independent British films, which have not previously been widely available or accessible to UK audiences. The BFI aims to support a wide range of exhibition activity through the Fund which could include but is not limited to: • Programmes curated around a particular theme, • Archive programmes. genre, national cinema or geographic origin. • Touring programmes. • Major retrospectives or seasons. • Documentary or non-fiction programmes . The BFI expects events, contextualisation and interpretation activity (e.g. programme notes/brochures or other publications, online materials and information, speakers, Q&A sessions, visiting talent, educational activity) to be included as part of projects in order to raise their profile, stimulate attendance, enhance understanding, and maximise engagement. The Beyond Borders Fund provides funding of up to £15,000 to stimulate collaborations between organisations in England, Northern lreland, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The scheme enables music creators to produce exceptional new music to be performed in at least two UK countries. Launched in 2010, the scheme has supported over 40 projects so far, bringing C&CS Funding Alert E-bulletin September 2015 5 together organisations and music creators across the UK and abroad. Beyond Borders has been made possible by a pioneering UK wide partnership between PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Creative Scotland who joined forces to support cross border collaboration. Only in exceptional circumstances will grants be given for building work. Deadline: 31st January 2016 http://www.theanchorfoundation.org.uk/index.html BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE New Innovation Vouchers Scheme Offers £5,000 Grants to Boost Cyber Security among Small Firms Launched this week, the Cyber Security Innovation Vouchers Scheme is intended to protect small businesses in the UK from cyber-attacks. The scheme is part of a package of Government-funded initiatives intended to increase the resilience of UK firms to cyber-crime. The package also includes a new online learning and careers hub to help ensure the UK has the cyber skills talent pool to protect both the public and private sectors as the nation faces the reality of increasing cyber threats. The voucher scheme will offer increased protection for small businesses, and the new online hub will help ensure the nation has the skilled workforce in place to manage the increased pressures of the digital age. The programme will have a total budget of £1 million. Individual vouchers will be provided up to the value of £5,000. Innovate UK will help winners access an expert from one of the following: • Universities and further education colleges • Catapult centres • Research and technology organisations • Design advisers • Technical consultancies • Intellectual property advisers The vouchers can be used to access specialist advice to boost cyber security and protect new business ideas and intellectual property. As well as helping protect businesses from cyber-attacks, the vouchers will enable firms to access services from the UK cyber security industry. The scheme will also help businesses to adopt Cyber Essentials, the Governments flagship scheme to protect businesses online. There are three levels of funding available. These are; Level awards which are for up to £500 and are made primarily through referrals; Level 1 Awards from £500 to £5,000 are to help make new ideas into real projects; and Level 2 Awards from £5,000 to £25,000 are to support projects that are Awards are distributed ten times per year and Level 2 Awards are distributed 4 times per year. The BBC Children in Need Main Grants programme distributes grants of over £10,000 to not for profit organisations such as Registered charities; Voluntary organisations; Schools; Churches; and Community groups, etc that work with disadvantaged children below the age of 18 living in the UK. In particular, grants are available for projects that help children and young people of 18 years and under experiencing illness, distress, abuse or neglect; any kind of disability; behavioural or psychological difficulties; and / or living in poverty or situations of deprivation. Affordable unsecured finance over a six year term will be provided to successful organisations to develop their business and focus on delivering social impacts before repayments of the loan capital begin. Loans are structured to pay interest-only in the first three years at six per cent per annum to enable organisations to use new revenue generated to build up cash flow. The funding is aimed at established social enterprises looking to expand or replicate their business through, for example, buying or building new properties and equipment. Deadline: Expression of Interest 6th November 2015 https://unltd.org.uk/doit/ EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING Scottish Government Scottish Government Announces £10 Million in Funding to Continue the Employer Recruitment Incentive The Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI) is administered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS). SDS is the national body the national skills body supporting the people and businesses of Scotland to develop and apply their skills. Employers in Scotland may use this programme as an incentive to help young people, who may be facing significant challenges, into work. This could be someone aged 16-29 with a disability, who is leaving care or who is a carer themselves. Equally, it could be an ex-offender who has been convicted or cautioned for a criminal offence and has completed their sentence. The new scheme, which launched in July 2015, is more closely aligned to the improving economic conditions and jobs market in Scotland, and delivers key recommendations from the Developing Scotland's Young Workforce action plan. The £10 million scheme aims to support another 2,200 young people into employment. Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI) payments of £3,963 will be made available to employers who recruit a targeted young person (TYP) as a Modern Apprentice (MA) or into employment of 15 hours or more per week. An additional £500 is available to those employers who commit to paying a Living Wage. Grants are only given to registered charities. Projects must meet all of the following criteria: • For children and young people under the age of 25 who are disadvantaged • Consist of educational activities that develop learning, motivation and skills • Have clear aims and objectives to be met within a planned timescale • Are within the UK The Company is looking for projects that deliver clearly defined educational benefits to a specific group of children or young people. Items of equipment will be considered only where a full explanation is given of how they will support this activity. The Company is particularly interested in enabling primary age children to develop a strong foundation for the future. Projects could, for example, support special educational needs, address behavioural problems or promote citizenship, parenting or life skills. Preference will be given to projects piloting new approaches where the outcomes will be disseminated to a wider audience. The European Commission has issued a call for proposals for action grants based on the 2015 annual work programme of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (REC Programme) and of the Justice Programme. The call aims to co-fund transnational projects to combat sexual harassment and sexual violence against women and girls, in line with the specific objective to prevent and combat all forms of violence against children, young people and women, as well as violence against other groups at risk, in particular groups at risk of violence in close relationships, and to protect victims of such violence (Daphne). This call aims to prevent and combat harassment/violence in one or more of the following contexts: • The workplace. • In schools and universities. • Through new technologies and social media. Projects on sexual harassment or sexual violence in the workplace may focus on specific work sectors. Projects targeted in particular at vulnerable groups and/or at engaging men in combating sexual harassment and sexual violence are welcome. The following types of activities will be funded: • Training and cooperation of relevant professionals (health services, police, the judiciary, social workers, teachers, employers, trade union representatives, university staff etc.) to better prevent and respond to these forms of violence, including through the establishment of formal or informal procedures and support programmes to respond to cases. • Development and practical implementation of modules and/or materials to train and educate children (boys and girls), young people, men and/or women to prevent sexual harassment and/or sexual violence in these contexts by bringing about attitudinal and behavioural changes with regard to gender roles, stereotyping and sexualisation, and to educate about the unacceptability of such violence and raise awareness of victims' rights. Projects must be transnational and should be elaborated in partnership with and/or be led by key players, such as employers, trade union representatives, education professionals, university staff, students' unions or clubs. The involvement of national education and/or employment ministries is particularly welcome. The aim is to fund practical projects ensuring maximum practical benefits and impacts for the target groups. A budget of €3 million is available for this Call. North West Europe The second call for project proposals under the INTERREG North-West Europe Programme 2014-2020 is now open. The Programme’s mission is to produce measurable positive change in North-West Europe around three themes: C&CS Funding Alert E-bulletin September 2015 8 Innovation: • The objective under this theme is to enhance innovation performance of enterprises throughout the Northwest • Europe regions. • Low Carbon: The objectives under this theme are to: • Facilitate the implementation of low-carbon, energy and climate protection strategies in order to reduce GHGemissions. • Facilitate the uptake of low-carbon technologies, products, processes and services in sectors with high energy saving potential in order to reduce GHG-emissions. • Facilitate the implementation of low-carbon solutions in transport systems to reduce GHG-emissions. • Resource and material efficiency: • The objective under this theme is to optimise (re)use of material and natural resources. Governmental organisations, civil society (non-profit organisations), education and knowledge institutions such as universities, intermediate bodies such as chambers of commerce or development agencies, enterprises, social enterprises and social housing providers can apply for grants of up to 60% of eligible costs. Applications must include partners from at least two different Member States in North-West Europe. Once a project concept note is approved, the Programme Secretariat will contact the lead partner directly. Applicants will be given support to develop the project into a full work plan which will need to be submitted within five months of project approval, or ten months if the first deadline is missed. The Highlands and Islands area of Argyll and Bute is an eligible area under this programme. There are 4 Priorities under the programme which are: 1. Protecting, Promoting and Developing Cultural and Natural Heritage The intervention rate for eligible costs ranges from 50-65% depending on the project. There is a requirement to work with partners from across the Programme area which includes Finland, Ireland, UK (Scotland and N. Ireland), Sweden, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland and Norway. This means that the programme area encompasses the Euro-Arctic zone, parts of the Atlantic zone and parts of the Barents region, neighbouring on Canada in the West and Russia in the East. It is also anticipated that the partnership should comprise of partners from public, private and academic organisations. This will distribute approximately £500,000 in 2016 to support projects that help some of the world’s poorest countries and fit within the Scottish Government’s International Development Policy. Eligible projects must be focused in one of the Scottish Government’s priority countries, contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (and the post-2015 Framework in due course), and the alleviation of poverty and economic growth in the priority countries. These are: Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Indian States of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. Incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £150,000 are eligible to apply. The Programme is specifically intended to accommodate smaller requests for funding to contribute to current International Development policy and outcomes and to overarching Scottish Government outcomes. Therefore, although there are maximum grant levels in place, it is envisaged that a range of project sizes will be supported through the Programme. The Scottish Government recognise that there are some small organisations which would wish to apply to the Programme, but do not currently meet the criteria of being incorporated. In recognition of this, and to assist these organisations, the Scottish Government has announced that organisations in the process of becoming unincorporated may apply for funding from the Small Grants Programme, on condition that they will have become an incorporated organisation (e.g. either by becoming a Company limited by guarantee, a community interest company or a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) by 31st December 2015. Within the UK, the Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants to projects that address disadvantage, notably by supporting causes which are less popular. Projects must address the MoD's priorities for 2015-16, which are: • Community integration. • The coordination and delivery of support to the armed forces community. • Former service personnel in the criminal justice system. The funding is for one-off projects, which have lasting impact, and clear exit or sustainability strategies. The Fund offers both small and large grants to support these three priorities. Large grants of between £20,001 and £500,000 are available to statutory bodies, registered charities and registered community interest companies. The large grants programme has a two stage application process. The assessment is based on the work of the whole organisation and the assessment will focus on excellence in the six areas of IMPACT. Up to ten winners will receive £30,000 unrestricted funding with one overall winner receiving £40,000. Registered Charities can apply for grants ranging from a few hundred pounds up to £30,000 per year for up to 2 years that are working in the areas of education or health with one of the Foundation' four chosen focus groups. These are children and young people with disabilities; children and young people who are sick in hospital; children and young people who are homeless; and children and young people who are life limited (requiring palliative care). There is approximately £150,000 available to distribute each quarter. Grant applications for up to £10,000 can be approved by the Committee, and applications for more than £10,000 are recommended to the Trustees for final approval. There is no limit on the amount of money that a charity can request. However, the Foundation is a small charity and generally will not make awards of over £30,000 (per year). This includes veterans who have survived World War Two, those who undertook National Service and other voluntary enlisted veterans who may need some focused support in relation to their health and social care needs. Projects should have a real and lasting impact on the quality of life of lives of older veterans and directly benefit them and support them. Families and carers may also benefit from the projects indirectly. The Government is particularly keen to see portfolio applications from notfor-profit organisations that have a good track record of managing similar strategic partnership projects across regions and nationally. In this case, 'portfolio' refers to a 'linked collection of projects coordinated by the lead organisation and provided by C&CS Funding Alert E-bulletin September 2015 12 suitable partner organisations'. The lead organisation must be a registered charity with a track record of managing large strategic projects and the capacity to manage and coordinate the provision of the proposed portfolio. Deadline: 21st September 2015 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/aged-veterans-fund ENERGY, RENEWABLES AND RECYCLING Zero Waste Scotland Zero Waste Scotland Launches New Scheme: Innovation in Collection for Remanufacture and Re-use -Funding for Trial Zero Waste Scotland is making available funding to support the development of innovative new approaches to the challenges posed by core product return and collection quality products at scale to enable greater levels of remanufacture and re-use within Scotland. Funding is available to cover both capital and revenue costs depending on the funding route chosen and applications can be made under either de minimis or General Block Exemption mechanisms. The key objectives of the scheme are to: Support the trial or replication within Scotland of innovative product collection systems, reverse logistics and electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) collection for up to a two year period, creating a sustainable and effective infrastructure to facilitate product return to the remanufacturing and re-use sectors. Increase the quantity and quality of products captured for remanufacturing and re-use in Scotland, build the supply market required to increase these sectors and create jobs, building capital and community capacity. Generate evidence to support the evaluation of trialled system(s) and inform the scope/potential for replication throughout Scotland. Awards of up to £100,000 per project are available. Applicants should note that £100,000 represents the maximum amount available over the two year duration of the proposed trials, not per annum. Finding is offered under Article 47 (Investment Aid for Waste Recycling and Reutilisation) of the European Commission General Block Exemption (GBER) Scheme. As such, Zero Waste Scotland can fund up to a minimum of 35% of the total eligible project costs per applicant for large companies, 45% for medium-sized companies, and 55% for small companies. Zero Waste Scotland is seeking collaborative or consortium bids which demonstrate a whole systems approach from collection to end-use of product. The Fund is open to established organisations and start-ups across the commercial, industrial and third sectors in Scotland. There is no restriction on the type or size of organisation that may apply, providing the project is able to fully meet the scope and requirements of the programme and that the organisation's de minimis threshold will not be exceeded (i.e. no more than €200,000 received over any three year period). Third Sector re-use sector organisations should be fully Revolve accredited or equivalent, or be working towards accreditation. Non accredited reuse organisations must commit to commencing the accreditation process and gain entry level accreditation within six months and full accreditation within the first 12 months. Support is available to guide organisations through this process. Private sector organisations must be able to demonstrate equivalence with Revolve standards either through alternative accreditations (eg ISO) or through documented policies and procedures that reflect core Revolve values. The scope of the programme is to support trials of innovative approaches to the challenges of core product return for re-use and remanufacture. It is anticipated that these trials will be built around one or more elements of the following (however this list is not exhaustive): • Consumer-facing collections utilising software based solutions (existing or bespoke). • The capture of consumer and commercial product returns and effective redistribution of these to the most appropriate end market using either in-house or third party logistics. • Centralised collection systems utilising retailers, re-use hubs, other form of community or commercial drop-off or takeback network. • Implementation of designated and staffed collection points at local authority operated Household Waste • Recycling Centres (HWRCs). • Collection trials specifically designed to overcome the challenges posed by the capture of small electronics. • It is anticipated that there may be shared solutions which cut across all of these areas; therefore applications are not restricted to a single system. The grants will also help the creation of a nationally recognised Cycle Friendly Community Award scheme. Funded projects must lead to more people cycling in communities across Scotland, helping deliver the Scottish Government's vision of 10% of all journeys being by bike by 2020. The fund aims to support new and upgraded paths for public use to encourage active outdoor activity. It provides for the capital costs of installing paths, together with related items such as drainage, self-closing gates, signposts, bridges and boardwalks. The Improving Public Access (IPA) option is open to a range of public bodies, organisations, farmers and other land managers, and is available across all areas of rural Scotland. Projects will be assessed for their benefits in developing connectivity and linkage in path networks, providing a good basic standard of construction, and in removing obstacles to make access more easily available to the public. The Trustees welcome applications for projects which provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium of sport; projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within a sporting activity; projects that provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people; projects with a high degree of community involvement; projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction. Applications may be submitted at any time http://www.peterharrisonfoundation.org/grant-programme/application-process LAND AND PROPERTY Scottish Land Fund The Scottish Land Fund has now been extended for a further year until March 2016, with an additional £3m invested by the Scottish Government. The Fund now totals £9m. The Fund is designed to help communities buy land and property to help regenerate the fortunes of their local area. The Fund is administered by the Big Lottery Fund, in partnership with HIE. HIE have appointed a team of advisers who will help applicants develop their projects to application stage. The Fund can support acquisitions as diverse as small development sites, to large estates and include uses such as affordable housing, business and industrial space, community open space or visitor and heritage centres. It can provide up to 95 percent of the costs of purchasing land and land assets, as well as project revenue funding for up to two years. Applications may be submitted at any time http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/scottishlandfund New Funding Programme Launched to Support Community Farming Just Growth is a new funding programme to support social enterprises that are producing food in an environmentally and socially just way. A key aim is to encourage community ownership and the programme will be looking for organisations that are owned and run by their community or that have strong co-operative principles embedded in their structure. The programme is looking to support up to 8 projects. The funding will consist of a minimum of £15,000 in loan financing and a minimum of C&CS Funding Alert E-bulletin September 2015 16 £15,000 in grant funding. At least £15,000 will need to be raised from the community either through crowdfunding or community shares. Deadline: 30th September 2015 http://www.feanetwork.org/our-projects/just-growth Funding for the Restoration of Historic Buildings Funding is available to restore historic buildings through the Heritage Lottery Fund's Heritage Enterprise grants programme. The programme provides grants to support not-for-profit organisations in partnership with the private sector for the restoration of unused historic building and sites. The programme provides grants where historic buildings have failed to attract enough investment because the cost of their repair has not been commercially viable for private developers. Under the programme two levels of grants are available: Grants of between £100,000 and under £2 million and grants of between £2million and £5million. Grants and low interest working capital loans are available to registered charities and constituted not for profit organisations to help with the regeneration of historic. The AHF can provide grants to help with assessing the viability of a project, or to fund development costs. Currently two types of grants are on offer; these are the Project Viability Grants (PVG) of up to £3,000 to fund short studies to look at potential uses for a building and at its current condition. This grant is administered on a rolling basis and the Project Development Grant funding of up to £25,000 to assist an organisation to cover some of the costs of developing and coordinating a project and taking it towards the start of work on site. The AHF also provides loan facilities to eligible charities and other not-for-profit organisations, either for the acquisition of a building, or to provide working capital throughout a restoration project. Loans usually require some form of security, either a first legal charge or a repayment guarantee from a local authority. The Town Centre Communities Capital Fund is intended to support enterprising communities with project proposals that complement the range of demonstration projects and wider initiatives that are currently underway through the Town Centre Action Plan. We are making available £1.7m in financial year 2015/16. This fund will help local communities to: • Help further unlock potential of public assets in town centres, improve amenity and first impressions of a place in line with the TCAP, the Town Centre First Principle and guidance available through the Town Centre Toolkit. • Support those with an identified town centre project or plan which may benefit from capital grant in financial year 15/16.
