SCHOOL INFORMATION Notre Dame High School is a private Catholic secondary school. Founded by Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1947, Notre Dame has been co-educational since 1983. Notre Dame has the maximum 6-year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), is further accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school is located in Sherman Oaks, a suburb of Los Angeles. The student and family population is ethnically, socioeconomically and geographically diverse, as the school enrolls students from over 90 middle schools in the Los Angeles area. Memberships include the National Catholic Education Association and The National Association for College Admission Counseling. Notre Dame complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice. There are 93 faculty members and administrators, with 65 holding master's degrees and three with doctoral degrees. ACADEMIC PROGRAM Notre Dame offers a college preparatory curriculum with honors and advanced placement courses in art, English, modern and classical languages (four languages), mathematics through Calculus BC, science, computer science, history and social studies. An extensive college preparatory elective program provides additional courses in STEM education, visual and performing arts, communications, social studies and courses designed for students to explore specific interests such as psychology, TV production, sports medicine, journalism, photography, and more. Notre Dame High School does not rank students by grade point average. The GPA recorded on an official transcript is a cumulative (grades 9-12), weighted GPA which includes all classes taken during the regular school year. By school policy, summer school remediation is not included in the GPA printed on the transcript. Freshmen are encouraged to complete 20 hours of service within their family, sophomores are encouraged to complete 20 hours of service at a place of worship, and juniors are encouraged to complete 30 hours of service at Notre Dame. Seniors are required to complete a 30 hour service project in the local community.
