SCHOOL MISSION
Notre Dame High School, a Catholic, college preparatory school in the Holy Cross tradition, educates the hearts and minds of
students who are diverse in talent, ethnicity and society. As a faith community, Notre Dame strives to provide each student with a
rich academic background, an appropriate sense of self, an opportunity for growth, a commitment to family, community, nation
and world, and a respect for the spiritual dignity of all persons.
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Notre Dame High School is a private Catholic secondary school. Founded by Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1947,
Notre Dame has been co-educational since 1983. Notre Dame has the maximum 6-year accreditation by the Western Association
of Schools and Colleges (WASC), is further accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and has been
recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school is located in Sherman Oaks, a suburb of Los Angeles. The
student and family population is ethnically, socioeconomically and geographically diverse, as the school enrolls students from over
90 middle schools in the Los Angeles area. Memberships include the National Catholic Education Association and The National
Association for College Admission Counseling. Notre Dame complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice.
There are 93 faculty members and administrators, with 65 holding master's degrees and three with doctoral degrees.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Notre Dame offers a college preparatory curriculum with honors and advanced placement courses in art, English, modern and
classical languages (four languages), mathematics through Calculus BC, science, computer science, history and social studies. An
extensive college preparatory elective program provides additional courses in STEM education, visual and performing arts,
communications, social studies and courses designed for students to explore specific interests such as psychology, TV production,
sports medicine, journalism, photography, and more. Notre Dame High School does not rank students by grade point average. The
GPA recorded on an official transcript is a cumulative (grades 9-12), weighted GPA which includes all classes taken during the
regular school year. By school policy, summer school remediation is not included in the GPA printed on the transcript.
