William Alexander Jr. MD Medical Director Georgia Medicaid Amerigroup Corporation Dr. Alexander is senior medical director for Amerigroup Georgia, a wholly owned subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc. In this role, he oversees the health care needs of the membership and serves as the principal medical manager and policy advisor to the health plan. Dr. Alexander is a member of the Infant Mortality Task Force of the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Georgia Maternal Mortality Review Committee and the Advisory Board of the Institute of Health Administration, Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. He also serves on the board of directors for Families First, the leading nonprofit family service agency in Georgia, and ZAP Asthma, a partnership created to reduce preventable morbidity and mortality from asthma for children living in Atlanta’s Empowerment Zone. Dr. Alexander is a member of the American College of Physician Executives. Prior to joining Amerigroup in 2010, Dr. Alexander served as vice president of Administration and Strategic Management and senior advisor to the president and assistant dean for Health Care Quality at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Previously, Dr. Alexander served as national quality medical director for Cigna HealthCare, where he developed the company’s clinical quality strategy. Board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, Dr. Alexander received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals and his fellowship in infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine.
